The Musicians Thread?

I agree, i dont care too much for the sound of someone jogging on the bass drum, just tipifies shitty metal music, with everything trebled up to the max. Chad Smith in the 80's played some bass drum lines that followed the bass line of the song exactly that would usually require double pedals due the speed, but he pulled it off in a cool, funky way, the beats had a 'bounce' to them whilst still being massively fast, something you never get with double pedals.

ok well i started trying to teach myself guitar...and i'm finding myself physically unable to do the G major chord. Its really pissing me off. I can get my 1st and 2nd fingers on fine...but as soon as i have to put my 3rd finger on the sixth string it all goes awol. My 2nd finger on the 1st string touches the second string...my 1st finger on the second string touches the 3rd string. So i attempt to correct my first and second fingers...when i do so succesfully, my 3rd finger is no longer pressing on the sixth string correctly. So when i try to correct that my first and second fingers touch the other strings again. Its like a big routine that keeps pissing me off.

What the hell am i doing wrong? or is this normal and i have to keep trying?

chad had/has groove, time and pocket though. that's what separates bad drummers from good... chad is awesome. even funnier is the fact that he looks just like will ferrell and because of his size, makes the drum kit look stupidly small.

Don't get bogged down, just keep going at it, as a beginner its a tricky chord to hit, it will come though. Once you learn all the open chords you can transpose them up the neck so its good to have it dialled.

But if its bumming you out, just mess about with the guitar, get a good feel for it then come back to it, sooner or later you'll hit it.I started guitar around 4 years ago, and obviosully at first like everyone i was appauling, and i took really long to get going, it was around 6 months before anything recognizable came out, but with practice every day stuff comes to you, and it all becomes easier.

www.myspace.com/matthewcurrie theres a link to my myspace for some inspiration.....lol but stick at it, it will feel great when its second nature!

He does look stupidly like Will Ferrell, he has toned down a lot these days but by no means has he lost it! Edited by Matthew62

I've been a musician for about 5 years now and i can comfortably play guitar and bass. i play in an up and coming band called "The Joneses" Myspace Link Iam the bass player for that band.

In september iam going back to college to do music so i can start my career as a session player.

Equipment wise i have for bass is a 60's fender jazz in white, a Maverick Nemesis s5 5string bass, Warwick Streamer 5string fretless bass, warwick corvette 4 string bass.

Amps i have a Peavey firebass 700 head (700watts into 2ohms) Peavey TVX 2x10" cab with a Peavey TVX 1x15" cab.

Guitar wise i have a late 70's fernandes Telecaster (were known to be better than fender in that year) with an early 80's Peavey studio pro 20watt valve amp combo (1x12")

Well i think thats pretty much it :)

no unfortunately it it has the boring style one, but i believe it one of the first to have that. Also its one of the last to still keep its serial plate as fender sued fernandes in the early 80's for pretty much copying the tele style, i mean to the point where you wouldnt be able to tell between the two.

yeah, lawsuit ***.

my sigma is VERY similar to the original gibson l6-s.. small details only differ, like mine has a 2 piece body while the original had a three piece (what i've seen anyhow), and some minor differences in the numbers by the pickup switch. :) oh and i believe that the chickenhead knob for the pup switch is a little less decorated than the gibson, but hey, can't see from more than a foot away.

Well I'm a producer / DJ - people don't seem to class me as a musician though, even though I have a bigger library than most, consisting of music including hundreds of styles.

If I'm not a musician, what am I? Nobody can answer that.

Everyone tries but they never can.

Just to add confusion, are you a producer?

A producer in the traditional sense would be the guy who recorded the band, tailored the sound and mixed the tracks in a recording studio using microphones and live instruments, whereas DJ producing is nothing like that.

For example Sir George Martin, Pharrell Williams and Armand Van Helden all call themselves producers, when in fact they all do very different things.

I personally would call DJ's artists, as they aren't really musicians as I'd class a musician playing in the live sense, and they aren't really producers because they only really do the mixing side of production. But they are a music artist as they create songs.

Definately a strange subject though.
