rider_01
i found out what it is, apparently it happens to most people but only a few can tell when it happens, iv been told its if you breath in more than your heart can handle it miss's a beat to just get rid of the oxygen thats not needed i dont no if this is true so dont hold me 2 it, i found this out from a medical book thats like 10 years old so new explanations could have been developed in the meen time sean

Krisboats
There are ways around it, but they're expensive and presumably your doctor didn't think it necessary. You can wear 24 hour (Holter) ECG machines and even get a machine implanted which can last for a couple of years.I had a friend, and his heart rate used to randomly 'jump' to around 200+ bpm, and he'd go dizzy and pass out. Not good. He had that investigated (with a 24 hour ECG I think) and he had what's called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (look it up if you're interested). He's since had a procedure on his heart (thermal ablation) and he's all fine. I'm not saying you've got anything like that though, I'm sure you don't. People just get palpitations from time to time. P.S. Google 'Carotid Sinus massage'.I have that, only i've not been hardcore enough to pass out from it. It just comes randomly really. I mean, i can run round a football field twice with 30kg of weights in a backpack without being too knackered so its not like i'm unfit. Its just randomly, like i had it once when i went out to play football with mates for about 10 minutes. I've also had it a few times while being out on and having gotten in from riding.I don't know the exact speed but i'd be suprised if it wasn't near the 200 mark. Guess next time i'll have to find out.Breathing does seem slightly trickier though, well not trickier... i don't really know how to explain it. Its like you have to breathe in and out more than normal, only your ribs don't quite expand properly so they're smaller breaths. And also your windpipe seems different somehow.Tell you what, stick a car sponge over your mouth and nose and try breathing still... its like that but without the nice smell of new car sponge.Never really been fussed by it, its not regular so i don't need to bother the doctor with it.
