Dan Clark
Nikon: Better ergonomics, better flash systemCanon: Better high ISO, more commonIf you've already got a load of Nikon lenses why switch? There's not really much of a difference between the two performance wise.
Tomm
There's not a lot of point in changing. As Dan says, you've already got lenses and are used the Nikon. I personally wouldn't bother - you never know what Nikon will bring out next anyway. Plus it's not really gonna help you get better pictures EDIT: Better ergonomics on Nikon? My arse. Willy
I prefer Nikon's for long exposure night shots, personally for the red glow. Canon's for everything else. Canon ***!Will.
Dan Clark
Canon's are tiny and you have to press buttons to change aperture. Nikon dual scroll wheels ***.On 350 and 400d's anyway, not sure about the 30d.
Willy
Wheres Mike when I need him. Canon>Nikon.
Dr. Nick Riviera
to be honest until you get into massively pro stuff, it doesn't really matter about anything other than personal preference, and as has been said, if you have lenses and stuff, why change? Davetrials
i dont have ne lenses btw.....ive seen alot of model shoots recently and they all use hasselblad with cannons as a spare.. must be a reason why?why do most of the press use cannon?why do most motosport photographers use cannon? Nikon dual scroll wheels ***.On 350 and 400d's anyway, not sure about the 30d.Nah the 30D has dual scroll wheels and it's much bigger than the 350/400D. So ner.ive seen alot of model shoots recently and they all use hasselblad with cannons as a spare.. must be a reason why?You better get a Hasselblad then Dave...Canon make more 'Pro' stuff than Nikon though. It's just the way things are. The most expensive Nikon is the D2x which is still half the price of the dearest Canon. Canon L lenses (the white ones and a few others) have a very good reputation for being very good, but they're expensive. Nikon don't make full frame, Nikon don't do a camera capable of 10fps (like the 1d MkIII). All of which makes no difference if you're an amateur and you're spending under 2 grand. Joe Papasnap Maher
Dave, On average i must see 25 Pro photogrpahers everyday, and its pretty split..Its 50/50 canon/nikonEveryone either has a 1d or d2x.
Dan Clark
You need to learn to spell Canon first before you can buy one.
Davetrials
yea thats what jessops saidf**k of till u can spell.. im hearing lots of stay withn ikon comments? i want reasons WHY!!!ive got no lenses or nikon specific equipment, ive been turned down for TWO jobs already cos im a nkon user, as the photographers said it would take to much time for me to switch, EVENTUALLY!!! (f**k you joe) i would love to do somthing within fashion, so i want to be up on whats most popular within that side of photography, if that makes ANY sense? Dai the Socket
Plus it's not really gonna help you get better pictures I think that is the main thing. Why are you spending a lot more money Dave. Just get good with the camera you've got. You can get perfectly good photos from a Nikon, as you can from a Canon. Maybe some professionals prefer Canon, but you're nowhere near that level.Save your money.

UrbanLegend
I think the general point Dave is trying to make is he wants to venture into professional work in the future. The current number floating around is 70% professionals use Canon. Most of the BIG agencies such as Reuters DEMAND their photographers use Canon. I'm talking the massive press agencies here, not your local paper and magazines...I completely agree, at an amateur level, it really would be silly to change. BUT if someone is looking to make a career out of photography, it does make sense to get on the Canon system early, before you start collecting Nikon equipment. He's already said he has no lenses etc., and the D50 is very much a beginners camera. So a 30d makes the perfect "upgrade" and a great way to get accustomed to the Canon system.I'm in no way Nikon bashing, and yes I'm a Canon user, but I like to think I'm not too biased! UrbanLegend
Seb Rogers uses Nikon, and all the UK mountain bike magazines don't seem to mind too much..That's fair enough if you want to work for a MTB mag, but Dave said he wants to get into fashion etc... Plus UK MTB mag's aren't exactly HUGE are they?

There is *no reason* to go with Canon or Nikon, other than what works best for you or if you _need_ tilt and shift lenses. Why not go with a D200? Heard nothing but good things about those.Given that Joe is a professional photog, and deals with photo people on a daily basis, I'd give a lot of consideration to what he says. If you're shooting for a big agency, then go nuts and buy whatever they say. I'm sure the pay cheques and comission will more than cover it in the long run. Meanwhile just worry about getting the best out of what you've got.Oh, and spend money on glass, not bodies.
Dan Clark
Yeah, buying a couple of nice lenses will far outweigh the benefit of a new body. The new 18-200 2.8 VR has got rave reviews, expensive though, yet still cheaper than a body. Joe Papasnap Maher
Cheers for sticking up for me chris..The thing is dave, I dont claim to know much*...but i what i do know, ill share wether you like hearing it or not.As for you saying i think i look down on you dave. I dont at all dave, your just being nieve(sp) and anyone that doesnt agree with your way of thinking in your eyes is wrong, or trying to steer you down the wrong track. When it isnt the case.* There are LOTS of people on this forum who know FARRRRRR more about camera's and shit than i do. and i dont mind..i dont intend on ever getting to know the ins and outs of the camera malarky. I just do what i know.
