Left Foot / Right Foot?

Recommended Posts

Does it really matter which foot you use to crank hop ect...? For example weak foot / strong foot? Im right handed/footed but i use my left foot forwards. Does anyone else do this or should you use your stronger foot?(me right foot) HELP! Thanks Nigel

Use whichever one you're most comfortable with or you're just making life difficult for yourself. Most people have a preferred foot, some people can switch feet happily and some utter freaks turn into their forward foot.

There's an advantage to riding left foot forward in that you don't get your jeans caught in your sprocket so often but it's hardly worth forcing yourself to ride in an uncomfortable position to save some jeans you should have shoved down your sock anyway

Yeah, I'm right handed/footed too but I put my left foot forward, when I try putting my right foot forward it just doesn't seem to work for me =\

I'm pretty sure using your stronger foot would be technically better because it'll be stronger (duh), and because you've been using that foot to do stuff your whole life it'll probably be easier to pick things up with it. Saying that you might be weird (like me :)) and find doing techniacal things easier wrong-footed, or maybe its called switch :S Not sure if opposite footedness (is that a word?) on bikes is called switch but what can you do about it?

Btw, I don't actually ride trials (yet!), I was just using logic :) Well, what I call logic ;)

Well I wouldn't do anything with my right forward, not even ride in a straight line it just felt iffy at the knees, but I was just saying how its making me to adapt to right foot forward.

Another example of this is in sidehopping, when ledges become high, its best to sidehop in the direction of your back foot, so people can do it one way with their natural foot, or switch using their other foot to go the other way.
