What's Your Job?

Recommended Posts

I am a freelance editor for a trade publication in electronics (started as web assistant, ended up managing editor of the print).

Freelance because, after getting the top job, I couldn't be arsed travelling so much and working long office hours any more.

So I resigned to offer my services on a freelance basis, working from home with ultra-flexible and less hours, less international travel (more time to ride basically), and I can charge much more for it ^_^ because I dictate all the fees (that's 10 years of experience let loose in the negociations)

Negotiation skills are a must for freelance work. My problem is I'm often not bold enough. Thankfully people who I've taken advice off before have been helpful, telling me to be ruthless! Not that I do much for other people, but it's good practice...

Well, it's about knowing what you can afford to loose vs what they have to gain from you

Haha Mega!

Just had a phone call from my old manager at Jessops who's now working in Bradford, and she asked if I wanted a job for summer. Which I sooo do!

£5.35 an hour. Full time hours Mon-Fri 9-5.30 :)

Well happy now haha. I get to talk about lenses and stuff all day long hehe

Enjoy explaining the benefits of optical zoom over digital zoom, regarding sub £100 compact cameras. *sniggers*

I got myself double hours at Tesco for the summer, I might ask for more...

well today was fun at the garden centre :D

had 3 suspicious people in, basically 2 lads and a lass. One staff saw one of them put solar lights in their bag.

Bit later, on their way out, staff confronted them and they started to run, our staff chased them, one of the lads thumped one of our staff in the face (28 yr old, 6'4", 16 stone) and swung at other staff with a needle :S

we got him pinned down though, lass tried kicked ryan (24, 6'4", 18 stone) as he had te lad pinned down. Then next minute lad and lass were locked out the site and we had this one guy pinned down. Cops were called. The guy swung his head back into ryans eye/face.

He was comin out with some right shit though -

"you dont know my family and what they can do to you"

"next time i come here, you're gonna have no eyeballs"

"get your foot off my hand so i can get my axe and chop your legs off"

and the funniest - "i've got hep C mate, want me to spit on you"

Great day....

Oh wait, the greatest thing was the old granny in the disabled bay watching and she shouted "go on smack him" hahaha

Our two big staff who i described were telling him how he was lucky that they were at work cause if they weren't he would have been seriously f**ked.

yoyoyo

My 2nd day at garden centre i had an old lady trip up smashing her face in, so many eggy bruises, broke both of her wrists etc. Her son with her was like "s'ok, she does it all the time" :o:D

I've worked at Jessops before for 8 months so I know just about all the phrases in the book when people ask stupid questions.

The phrase I end up saying most is "to be honest, is all comes down to personal preference between the cameras", meaning they're both shit, just buy one and f**k off, so I can make a sale on a 1D Mk2 with a 300mm F/2.8 L.

£235 a week will be nice though, before my holidays.

Erm, i know a few from sight lol, but ye our manager, hes crazy! knows every plant and proper name of it!!

I know all the compost and gravel we have etc, and what is what, how much needed etc as i have to help people who cant lift bags into cars. But wait, they've just introduced a system where anyone wanting compost/gravel has to pay and come via me who will give it to them, so i can sign their receipt as we get lame people coming again with their first receipt getting more :S

ah well after assaulting two of our staff, and threatening with a needle, and many threats made, he was only charged for -

Shoplifting (he tried stealing solar lights, binoculars, hozelock stuff)

Criminal Damage - in the police van he had a lighter in his pocket and tried melting the plastic on the cuffs LOL apparently he set fire to his leg ROFL

Assault - ? Apparently, we don't have evidence......

He's out on Bail, GG.

Police said if he comes onto site, ring them and hes arrested.

Stupid cause he lives 5 mins walk away from us....and could pop in, do any sort of damage and go....

Hes banned from Derbyshire haha, as our border of site is edge of derbyshire and then runs into south yorkshire where he lives :D

Hahaha, its like PC world, I walk in and see some old man buying a laptop for £140 and the staff convincing him that its the absolute top of the range because you get a free carry case and a months repair warrenty...you really want to go over and explain that its a pile of shit, but...cant be arsed.

Really? whats it called?

Isn't it called Twatty Bikes or something like? Some rather silly but catchy name anyway...

Do you actually sell any bikes Adam? because it seems to me that you buy them all from yourself.

Tartydykes?

I might actually have to get a job someday, making bits for bikes is a good 'un but unfortunately its not the most lucrative trade (10 quid in my pocket for five hours work today). I'm just glad I can live comfortably and contently on a pittance, its a lot nicer than working under crap conditions to try and keep a flash car and a fast bird running.

Tartydykes?

Probably mentioned this a million times before, but still makes me laugh...

Came home from work one day, dad turns around and says 'someones rang you from tarts on bikes or something like that'.

Suppose its funnier if people actually had met my dad...
