If you don't get it, think of a car, todge designs it, make sure it all works together, where the buttons go inside, door handles, then i make the car, fit the engine, make sure the engine ties in with the buttons, make sure the headlights work when you tell them too, etc.

Dai the Socket
I'm not website wonder so i dunno how all that stuff works lolSomeone else designs it, he writes all the code so that your web browser reads it correctly, and it works, and looks pretty still Urm. I've got two jobs:First is..Halifax Royal Bank of Scotland (HBOS) at their head office in Halifax. I'm technically in Customer Relations but do data processing and management of DSAR (Data Subject Access Requests), mainly about excess bank charges that have been in the news recently. Essentially, if you've been charged stupid amounts £30ish for going over your overdraft limit or whatever, then you can claim them back, but you need to get hold of a list of charges first. Work Mon-Fri evenings only, £6 an hour so can't complain. Apart from our new manager Claire is a fanny and won't let us listen to iPods!Second is..Frontal Media. Not sure if anyone knows of it or not but me and a business partner do small business websites, graphic design for print and posters, and photography of events. We've done quite a lot this year, with 2 proms in the last 2 weeks giving us about £650 profit just out of them. Then we do websites for new companies like Lexicon Marketing and have done quite a few for The Design Channel (including theirs ) Money's good as we charge ~£20 an hour, and can work at our own rate. Plus I really enjoy it.That's about it really
poopipe
~£20 an hour, the glory days of it being cheap at £35 an hour are over then? For me it wasn't worth the hassle then and it sure as shit wouldn't be now. I honestly admire people who can stick at freelance web development - I really didn't get on with it.

Muel
I design websites, but I get payes £5 an hour, its my first site so far so its a big learning curve. It's more than my mates are on and lets me earn some cash while at sixth form.Hoping to go to Uni to do a course in something both interesting and worthwhile. I have absolutely no idea what.Or if I fail, I want to do a modern apprenticeship in ICT Technicianism stuff, problem is its a bit constrained, where would I go from there?Or I could work in the local bikes shop, repairing punctures and replacing the brake cables in bike worth less than the cables themselves. JonMack
I left my job working at a skate shop in Newport on £20 a day last Friday. Now working at Wickes DIY on £5.45 an hour on a 12 week contract, dunno my hours yet, but should be quite cool, as my sister works there too.Previous jobs include McDonalds for 2 years, Tescos for 3 weeks (xmas temp)After summer I'll be returning to Newport for the final year of my degree in Graphic Design.Woo

Davey
Tis quite funny as I'm moving in with my missus who is on for a first in Law and Politics and is currently applying for jobs on about £20k+, so I'm a kept man for the next 3 years! Yeah, I earn more than that too and I'm in shedloads of debt, so I wouldn't bet on it!Davey
Tony Harrison
Full-time software and database designer. Has it's good days, has it's bad days. Pay is pretty good, benefits and holidays are good, plus I'm up for promotion next month which I'm stoked about. At other times I just want to throw the towel in and tell everyone to f'ck off.Aside from that I did do some web design stuff for people, mainly when I was at uni, but I find that after spending nearly 40 hours a week working on a computer I just can't be motivated to work on anything outside of work. This year though selling photographs and working on a couple of magazine articles have funded a nice collection of new camera gear and a much-needed PC upgrade.EDIT: Bongo, professional slacker? Got any jobs going?! Edited May 30, 2007 by snappel

BONGO
EDIT: Bongo, professional slacker? Got any jobs going?! Lol, i doubt it. I trained in slacking as an Apprentice for 3 years, were i had to go to college twice a week and do a Btec in slacking and boss-bullshitting, and in the rest of the week i buddied up with full time slackers and learnt how to slack in all are'as of work. It was hard and there was a lot to pick up, but i think now i am very good at the job and can slack off to any task my boss's give to me.Money is really good to me and the hours are amazing! I particularly like the flexi-hours/holidays Bongo(i might even get round to saying what my actual job is in this thread at some point!!!)I'm surprised at how few people on here work at Halfords, haha, I know that stereotyping but I was expecting a lot more, perhaps they just haven't posted yet:PDavey4 years ago, most people did!!!
