Davey
So....... what's your job?Thought it'd be nice to find out what people do professionally, as a lot of us probably spend the time we should be working browsing on here instead, lol! I'll start. I'm an account executive for a print management company. Basically we're a print brokers so we buy and sell print production for publishers, someone wants a magazine or poster or flyer or mailer printed then we sort it for them! It's great because the people here are a laugh and I've been in print for 6 years so I know what I'm doing, plus it's an office but I don't have to wear shirt and tie!So what do you do and why do you like/dislike it?Davey Edited May 31, 2007 by Davey

tank_rider
I'm a graduate systems engineer for Xerox. Do trouble shooting and problem identification/solving on pre-production digital multifunctional photocopiers. Generally working with machines that do 32 to 87 prints a minute, fit in an office environment and cost between £5K and £25K. The range i work on is responsible for about $1.5billion turnover a year, so pretty damn huge numbers! I'm currently managing a test fleet of 17 machine, 14 in Welwyn where i work, 1 in Uxbridge and 2 in Henrietta in the US.Really enjoy how varied the work is in that i have to know pretty much the entire machine inside out and nearly every problem i get called to is different, and needs me to be on my toes. Got the potential to travel the world, to Melaysia where we've got a manufacturing facility, to the US for pre-launch external customer testing support and pretty much anywhere on the globe if the need arises within one of our major customer accounts. Also being on the grad scheme means i get a payrise every 6 months of a min of 5% and get to chage department every 6 months to get a nice varied experience. Dislike, having to do software upgrades on 17 machines once every two weeks at the moment, a bit repetative, but still theres always something unique about each one which helps the development etc. Oh and the 7.30 conference call which means a 5.30 in the morning alarm

Not likely because he's only 12 but you know what I mean!Davey

OD404
Product Development Engineer for Cummins Inc at their High Horsepower plant in Daventry. We're responsible for the continued development and tailoring (our engines are customer specific) diesel and natural gas engines ranging from 38 to 91 litres (roughly 1000hp to 3500hp depending on the calibration).Started in September as a graduate and have had some very exciting and challenging projects so far. Highlights include heading up the stress analysis of some failing injector pushtubes, doing the modelling for our latest revision to the 78 litre cyclinder block and troubleshooting an application that was chewing up our alternator belts. So far there hasn't really been any bad points to the job, but it's early days yet
guineasmithpig
Currently doing my degree; Motorsport Engineering BEng at Oxford Brookes. Hope to go into to top end motorsport for a few years after that, but I've been warned not to make it your life's work! Work part time at Cycle King (get a badge that says 'Cycle King' and everything!) which sucks ass. How long will it be before people realise riding through glass and knackering your tyres isn't covered by the warranty? And anyone who knows about bikes thinks you're an idiot because you don't work in a specialist bike shop. Anyways, it pays well as it's in Oxford and my rent is like £300 (ex. bills) a month for a room in a shared house, and thats cheap!!!Tis quite funny as I'm moving in with my missus who is on for a first in Law and Politics and is currently applying for jobs on about £20k+, so I'm a kept man for the next 3 years!
