El_Pelligrosso
i would have to agree with gianttrials partly on this one. Obviously going to the gym helps but you are not going to see results straight away but again will help with the cardiovascular side of things. Personally I am not a good person to look at as i am a smoker (i know not healthy) but I enjoy riding trials as a past time and never really wanted to go pro. When i started riding about 8 - 9 years ago i was a proper little weed and would struggle in getting up the smallest of walls. Even now i am not bulging with muscles but i am happy with the way that i am progressing in trials and with muscle gain. I have used the gym for a while but i was finding that i was always aching the day after causing me not to ride. So in that respect going to the gym will help but you have got to remember that if you decide to do alot of weight training down the gym then muscles are going to hurt, which in turn might keep you from riding as much as you would like to. Also if you ain't riding that often then you ain't going to be practicing therefore not improving your technique and technique is vital. Gianttrials and myself ride together quite alot and we are better at different things such as taps, side hops and gaps. What I find helps aswell is that i never really compare myself to anyone else because everyone does have different techniques. Obviously watching pros will help with progression but can do alot of things that normal riders can't, which is why they are sponsored. They are paid to ride all the time and train so will always be fairly big build.Sorry for rambling on a bit but hope this helpsEl-Pelligrosso
bowman12
Alex, I've been watching that video of you and your mate on the Shogun Gimp. You do look like you struggle with that big T-rex. i started on a Giant Trials Team which is 26" incase you didnt know, but i always found it a bit difficult to keep the front wheel in the air due to the 26" bikes being that much heavier than a mod. on the video where you swapped bikes and rode the Gimp, you looked a lot more comfortable on that. I know you dont like 20" so im not saying get one. just go out everyday,l and PRACTICE! Practice until your arms feel like they are going to drop off. I used top do that and now i can do whatever you want on that giant, but i got bored and went mod!you will build up the strength and stamina you need over time. the more you ride, the more strength you develop. Savage
This topic crops up every now and again. I don’t go to the gym, why build up unnecessary muscles? In my opinion if you are reasonably fit and can ride for 2 mins, (the time allowed for a section), just keep riding and the rest will follow.Ben. ALEX@BIKETRIALSFUN
So just to recap you need muscle and technique I have developed technique but because I am not very big it is holding me back because I find it hard to throw the bike around. jsy trials matt
I do think being strong can help, but i have a mate(lil jsy chris) who is tiny (not in strength) he seems to amaze me how he the big stuff.being very fit not as much strong can also help.Matt
Ali C
I would rather be slim and strechy over muscly and restricted. Instead of getting bigger muscles, do power moves, exsplosive jumps...its the springyness thats important (and what I need more of!)

Do-M
Well im skinny-ish but ripped and im pretty strong, id say going to the gym has helped abit, but you still need to learn the techniqueHeres me doing some pull ups, this has helped me alot to be able physically lift my body weight, Thanks.Adam Just to let you know, you should really be doing your push-ups a lot slower, so as to use your muscles more and not depend on upward momentum. Oh, and you should really come all the way down so your arms are straight. To do those two things is a lot harder but the benefits are much better Edited May 31, 2007 by Do-M
