manxrider
Been riding light cross country over the past 2 days and really enjoyed it, and the bike im using atm is far far to small so looking to get an all rounder sort of bike, these are what I've picked out so far: ohh yeh budget is £300 GTMongoosesaracenSpecializedAt the moment, for possibly the first and last time ever im leaning towars the saracen as it looks more all roundish. I will be doing some of the local downhill tracks on it at some point probaly very slowly but never mind lol. So which would you suggest or any other bike for that matter?haha typical evans cycles now isnt loading.. TomR
Check out www.paulscycles.co.uk some real good deals on there form previous years models. I'd seriously consider Trek's, great bikes for the money and usually seem very well specced.

RobinJI
Out of that lot I'd go with the GT. Although I'm ot sure about the spec on that one. The 300 quid GTs we've go in work (halfrauds) have a considerably nice spec than that. Like, RockShox Darts and stuff, rather than suntours, And slightly better gearing. Have a look at the Carrera range too, there pretty awesome for the money. Although there's no 300 quid one, its 260 or 350 I think. Well worth it though, awesomely speced out for the money. guineasmithpig
For anyone interested, I work at a Cycle King store in Oxford, and we have these wee bad boys in at £299.99. FULL Deore groupset, thats:Deore brake leversDeore brakesDeore shiftersDeore chainsetUN53 BBDeore cassetteDeore front mechDeore rear mechDeore spec chainDeore hubs front & rearShimano cables and outers throughout (as far as I remember)The frames are pretty nicely laid out with an integrated Cane Creek headset, and come with a lifetime warranty. Gila TC fork up front with adjustable preload. Finishing kit is all alloy Zoom branded stuff, but basically just your generic alloy stuff but I've never had any issues with any of it. Used the posts and stems quite a lot.Anyways, I just think they are nuts value for money if you can see past the sticker on the frame to the amount of quality kit you get. I got the top end Salcano with full Hone groupset, inc. dual control, hydraulic discs and centreloc wheelset when we were doing em at 400 quid!!!! Just make sure you take one in a box and build it yourself, because most the workshop monkeys are useless.Smithy Edited May 28, 2007 by guineasmithpig
