Davetrials
I baught my echo freewheel about 3 weeks ago and the 1st two weeks were ok, at 1st it skipped a lil then it stopped, but after riding on it for 3-4weeks it basicly just died on mei couldnt spin it with my handsit sounds like the insides had spontainisioly(SP?) combustedit did nothing but skip bang and shag its self.i no of like 4 people whos echo freewheel as died on them, i say avoid them DEFFINETLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! not worth £80luckiliy i managed to strip the freewheel and the threads on my crank! so that gave me a good excuse to bin it and fit a tensile freewheel, i hope to god its better.theres a "review" for you
Muel
Here are my freewheel reviews, just to help, (Maybe the moderators will make this a sticky topic just for freewheel reviews).TENSILE FFW. 60 ENGAGEMENT POINTS. 6 PAWLS. £35.I have one. It cost me £35 six months ago, it has never skipped, never come loose and I have never had to rebuild it. If I ever have to buy another freewheel I will buy another tensile because they are so good and so cheap. You can buy the internals as a kit from supercycles for £18, or just buy a new one because they are so cheap. Probably won't last as long as an ENO but it's half the price, and I doubt you will get through two Tensiles in the lifetime of an ENO.ACS CLAW. 36 ENGAGEMENT POINTS. 4 PAWLS. £11.Absolute rubbish. I have three in bits from various mates because they have to get binned for a better freewheel. I got mine welded because it came loose so often, then it started skipping like mad and I couldn't rebuild it, so I cut it off with an angle grinder and got my tensile.TRY-ALL 108.9. 108 ENGAGEMENT POINT. 9 PAWLS. £50.I haven't owned this one, my mate has and it was rubbish, after a few weeks it started skipping like mad, he rebuilt it several times but it never stopped skipping. He got an eno instead.WHITE INDUSTRIES ENO. 72 ENGAGEMENT POINTS. 6 PAWLS. £70.I havn't owned this one either, but two of my mates have had three between them on various bikes. Hardly ever skips, never needs rebuilding or tightening. A good point about this freewheel is that all the parts are available seperately, so if anything breaks then it can be mended.I'll keep adding to this as time gets on, let you all know how the Tensile is getting on. domonza
I bought an echo freewheel and rode with it for bout 2 months and it was ok then sold it to my mate who rode it for another 3 months before it started skipping , when i had it i never took of the locking ring or fiddled with it remotly, when he took it apart, some of the springs and paws were facing in the wrong way ,so he put them in right and has never had one problem with it.I found that quite weird, but anyway take the locking ring of and have a look before u bin it, could have been built wrong by whoever makes them. meh who knowsDom
Has anyone seen my shoe?
Different people seem to have different experiences with freewheels and freehubs.Odd.
Shaun H
Different people seem to have different experiences with freewheels and freehubs.Odd.Not too surprising considering the accuracy required of the machinery in components like that.If the machining is shite, the freewheel/hub will be shite. If the Echo was made to the same standard as the ENO it would be just as good and reliable. Same goes for the Deng freehubs vs. the Profiles. There's also material used but I think the Echo is made out of some pretty dece stuff? Bionic Balls
you really can't beat the eno.read about it on their site! there's so much attention to detail in there- nothing else compares.there's bits been case hardened, soo many heat treatments gone on etc... if you actually get an eno and try and grind it/drill it whatever you'll realise, it's really very good quality stuff...it'll blunt all your tools easy.really wouldn't use anything else. And they last..adam

Has anyone seen my shoe?
Chuck norris could do it with his fist. But anyway, if Dengs freewheels/hubs have the potential to be as good as an eno/profile then I dont understand why he isnt making sure thats fulfilled. AdamR28
I baught my echo freewheel about 3 weeks agoWhere did you buy it from Dave? They shouldn't have been sold yet - all the ones we have are being returned and swapped due to a fault in the first batch. The design, manufacturing tolerances and materials quality of the Echo is on a par with the White Industries. basher
I think he will have got it from someone like matt awrkright whos sponsored by deng. But i may be wrong.
The Duck
Get a freehub. I know thats not a proper answer but they just never ever ever go wrong. I'm running a profile that is over 4 years old and its never had a part replaced. Its in 100% working condition and all it needs is a new sprocket really where the old one is so old and bent. It never skipps.Freehubs ***.But i had a try-all freewheel, it didn't skip on me once. Really nice feel, almost instant engagement... Couldn't fault it. Also had it for the same amount of time as my mates tensile and that is completely frigged. Skips every 5 minutes.so also try-all freewheels ft... 2nd place? ben_travis
its cheap china shit from deng, what could you expect.and now i will get killed by all the deng sponserd boys.shut up......your posts seem to be a case of how much of a dick you can be.Probably the most sold parts in the world (trials wise) are deng. There are things of his that i have slated to him personally, telling him to change them, hence his constant update on designs. Deng produces alot of good stuff. His frames are the strongest about (aluminium), some of his parts are also pretty amazing, however some are not.not all of us deng sponsored riders (me) totally bum deng, in fact you will find that i tell him all the time to update certain stuff and possible ideas. I also know adam and dave at tarty send advice etc etc.stop being a dick. seriously. i guarantee that you may not be a deng bummer but you will bum some certain other company. p.s what frame do you ride?
