Sketchy
Quick question for anyone that has or knows these brakes. When you pull the lever in and watch the caliper, does it flex at all?My whole caliper flexes sideways towards the hub...Does anyone have any comments or suggestions. Shaun H
Are your caliper bolts done up properly? It shouldn't flex to one side but all the Mono Trials calipers I've used flex. It's due to the high leverage ratio created by the larger pistons. Nothing to worry about. Edited May 25, 2007 by Shaun H
Sketchy
Indeed, the bolts are torqued up.I'd probably expect this flex if the pads were hitting either un evenly or consecutively.
huge
I've got this brake and exactly the same worry. Quite a lot of movement of the calliper body when I pull the lever. I think its because there is not all that much meat between the two sides of the calliper.

Oskar
my 07 caliper flexs to, and my old 2005 does to.
Sketchy
my 07 caliper flexs to, and my old 2005 does to.So it looks like it could be a design flaw. They cant have designed it intending that surely.... or could they?I spoke to my lbs who queried it with Hope. They said it was engineered like that, designed to have a certian amount of flex to give the lever better feel. Has anyone else heard this? Oskar
no its becouse the pistons are f**king big! 25mm.... powerfull shit and the lbs is full of shit to. Edited May 25, 2007 by Oskar
RobinJI
Nah, if they'd wanted to, they could have easily just beefed up the caliper to eliminate the flex. I imagine they will have made it have a fair bit of deliberate flex. A solid breaks great for stopping from speed, because of all the feeling and positive feel. But when you spend prolonged periods with the break on full lock a certain amount of flex is preferable to help prevent arm pump, and allow a bit of leway

Mod Man Leo
Mine does it to, It is desighn to flex at one point , becouse its better it flexes than if it just snaps or blowes up.If it were beffier something would have to flex/blowup/snap , personaly id rather it flexed than something broke in half.Remember the pistons are f**king big, ALOT of power there. Muel
I really don't think that Hope would have designed it to have a spongy lever feel, it is a trials specific brake after all. I prefer my brakes as firm on the lever as possible.
Oskar
I think its a compromise between weight and stiffness

Nick Garland
I find that my bite position on the lever is always changing, its not a solid place, sometimes it will be a realyl short travel before it bits, other times it will be near the bar. I think this is due to my insanely warped disc.Has anyone elses disc warped? I have not hit my disc once yet its like a gay bar, bent in so many directions. Greetings
Anyone know the mechanical advantage of the Mono Trial? If the pistons are 8mm and 2x22mm than that's giving a 1:15,12 ratio. The Louise has only 1:9,68. So no wonder the Mono Trial is spongy as fk.
RobinJI
I think my mono trails measures up at 10mm master to 2*25mm slaves. Which I make 1:12.5 but yeah, still fecking powerfull!
Anodised Adamant
my 07 flexes aswell but as people say it is nothing to worrie about they are well powerful
