Downhill is bigger than trials by a long shot, those bike's are not for taking a run down to the shops(well maybe down, but not back up again!!)

Do apollo even have a trials bike?

LOL, nah they don't i was just taking the piss because i always see young little kids on falling apart appolo BMX's.

It seems like a complicated issue to me, upsides and downsides. My opinion changes every time I think about it so I won't bother...

Just think though, if more people start we'll be the cool ones cos we started sooner :shades:

EDIT: Thinking about it, it seems like trials ought to gradually grow as its profile raises until roughly the point where most people are aware of the sport in some vague way. At the moment there must be people who would like trials but have never heard of it.

trials isnt like DH, DH there is always something "exciting" happening and always something awsum to watch a bit like this:

Trials Demo's = ££££ :D:)

Trials comps = results, results end up in getting known, getting known ends up in you being noticed for your riding ability or sociability between people etc. (World MASTER/ELITE level is prize money for top 3)

so to earn out of trials you need to be a demo rider. iv managed to scramble a few demos which i have organised for other member to do and earn the £££ from, weather or not trials becomes main stream you cant compare it to other sports and disciplines as trials is well,,,, trials. its individual.

Ali and to any other "rider" who wishes to gain sponsorship (in payment form ££££), you have to have the ability to make yourself known/stand out and kind of be a role model for younger members of trials, around where i live kids come into the shop and say "are you......." "did you do a demo......." and i get paid to ride by a couple of sponsors which helps me get my arse in gear to do what i want and to take trials "in my view and opinion" to MY next level.

Tonight, i have invited 3/4 lads upto shipley glen to "help" and "advise" them on their riding just from assessing their performances yesterday and give them a hand in areas where they struggled. i get far more out of trials doing that and having fun than i do from going to competitions and doing well, but i have to do this alongside helping others.

i may not have the most respect on this forum as my opinion and view on things is 99% totally different to EVERYONE on this forum, as i see things from a sales/trade and a retail side of things.

weather or not lil jimmy the chav buys a trials bike or not, Trials riding is all about having fun and enjoying yourself, if you can make something out of it like Akrigg, Hawyes and Ashton etc, then take every opportunity you can.

i go to Tyke Trials and National champs and alot of younger lads see me and ask me questions and ask for help as they know i will turn round and help them, some people will turn round and give them the cold shoulder and wont even spare them a minute of their time, some "pro's" or "sponsored" riders may feel they can get away with it, but if you pay your dews and help others it pays dividends big time.

Young riders should ride for fun and the enjoyment and look forward to future sponsorship and support. i know if i owned Aire Valley Cycles i would be putting some serious £££ in to the following few names to help them travel/accomodate kit:

Chris Boyes

Jack Carthy

Sam Oliver

Tom Oliver

Elliott Cochrane

Adam/Elliot Raven (backed extremly well by their father!!!! who is an important part of trials)

Thomas Lampkin (his surname says it all!!! he will be well known weather he is good or not!!!)

Waynio........................................

Comp at blackpool on sunday, was good to show the general public "what" trials is and about. there is no other venue in the UK that would allow people the "ease" of viewing of trials in its most natural form.

the cycle show etc is good for people who "know" about biking, its good to see people doing tricks and stunts etc. its weird and hard to explain, but at the end of the day trials will always be trials and weather its HUGE or small, i do it for fun and i get what i need out of it.

Does it really matter that much if it becomes mainstream? I highly doubt that Trials will ever be as popular as say skateboarding anyway, so it will never get to the point where you wont be able to find a riding spot that isnt in use or overcrowded. I really dont think that where Trials is now there is any reason to fear it becoming too mainstream- far from it! Sure Trials has grown a lot in recent years but it is still very much a minority sport. There might be certain areas of the country where its particularly popular but if you averaged it out across every town and city I'm sure you'd find a very different story.

Do you not think this question was being asked years ago? When there were barely any trials speific parts let alone mail order company's like Tarty and Select. The bigger the sport grows the more people that can find out about it and get involved. I dont know when you started riding? but if Trials hadn't have progressed in the years before then maybe you (or others on here) may have never even found out about the sport. I was lucky that when I started I had riders in my town, otherwise not a chance I would have discovered Trials. And I'm sure the same is true for loads of other people out there now, but they will take up something else unless the sport carrys on progressing and gaining more publicity.

Seems a bit selfish to hope that Trials doesnt get any bigger just for the sake of avoiding a few irritating kids that will quit before too long anyway if they arent really interested.

I know this is a bit off topic but what makes you enter the competitions and pay the fee's etc if you can ride anywhere you like ?

I actually started trials to help improve my downhill riding now I no longer ride downhill I find myself mutually addicted to trials but not for the competition like I used to do in downhill.

I simply find comps the most fun type of riding.

I agree with wayne that the money in trials is all in the demos, but to be honest I dont like doing demos as much as I like comps or just riding generally....its fun to do a demo every once and a while, but I wouldnt want to do them full time, its a LOT of work, much more than most people think, that means I would have less time to ride for fun, less time to do comps and a few demo riders have said that it can take the fun out of riding all together.
