Guest
ok well i am going to be buying an avid BB7 disc brake next month and i would like to know what rotor size to get.i have never had a disc before so i thought i would ask the people who know i ride a mod so what would be the best rotor size for me.i was thinking 185 as this has good leverage but is this too big for a mod or is it just right(p.s. only post here if you know whats best)cheerz,Reece
Ben Jones
My friend has a 185 rotor, doesn't look too big and had tones of stopping power.I've heard 160 is still more than enough, so either of them i suppose. Wouldn't go for the 203 myself on a mod because i think they look too big, and can get in the way too much when sidehopping.so 160 and 185 have more than enough power, of course 203 does aswell but theres no need going even bigger, and they look odd Ben
joewhite
im the boy bens on about. Get a 185, mine will rip your arms off to quote ross so get one of them but get a good cable and lever as this will affect its performance quite drastically. Dan6061
I have a 165mm on my mod. It's more that enough really. If it's for 26" 180mm is fine.

Ben Jones
Any avid levers are ok, shimano xtr and avid ultimates are your top end levers, but as i say any £20 avid sd7 levers are fine.Get them from chainreactioncycles or wiggle, search around
Guest
ok they have hope monos for £60 on ebay, is it possible to build and avid for cheaper or is a hope mono worth getting instead
basher
The bb7 would probs end up abit more than that hope but in the long run i would say you will have less hassle with a bb7 due to there simplicity. Ive used all three 160/185/203 bb7's i had the 185 on my mod and the brake was amazing it nearly sent me over bars it locked that quickly. But it is bigger than a 160 so if you sidehop that way theres more chance of catching it. A 160 locks really good and would be just as good, a 203 is over kill on a mod. With the 185 you will get more of a on off brake it will just lock striaght away, with the 160 you will have more modulation as in you would be able to do more rolling moves easier like a rolling endo. So really its just what you prefer in a brake either on off or more modulation. The lever you want to use is avid sd7 thats a really good lever for it price and i think most people would recomend you get one. I just use a cheapo cable but i believe people recomend linear slick cables.
