Please explain.I can't remember the exact mechanics (is there a diagram anywhere?) but basically when the clutch system engages it puts alot of pressure on the hub outwards. Shimano hub bodies aren't particularily thick. By putting on this ring, it adds strength to the shell and helps stop it breaking. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
