mr_malcolm
well simple physics would say that yes it is.but i personally dont know any one that has had troubles with drilled rimsand they do make your bike lighterbut really its up to youi mean if yout not thrashing your bike around and landing everything really heavy and sketchy you probally shouldnt have any problems
Shaun H
An undrilled rim is stronger yes. However it is heavier.Generally speaking, wider trials rims are extremely strong even when drilled as their width makes up for the strength lost from drilling.Think of it as a compromise;Wider rims: heavier but strongerDrilled rims: lighter but weakerPut them together and you have a good balance
D a n n y. . .
Unless your doing absolutely massive stuff, then u dnt have much chance of breaking a drilled rim!Or a non drilled rim for that matter!!danny...
Flubber
yeah they are weaker but only slightly, while they make the bike lighter.youve always got to win some to loose some.always go for drilled!Flubber:D

Luano
the weakest part of any rim is the join this will usually break first compared with a hole.so really a drilled rim is still as strong vertically. as in for landing on.but horizontally they are weaker so need to be trued more often. Alex Dark
i would have thought that the only strength you really lose is the impact strength upwards, would buckle upwards or break easier than a standard rim, in theory. i dont think that side ways buckling would be as much of an issue. I know it isnt much of an arguement for practical use but all of the pros use drilled rims, that i know of.
gianttrials
it also depends if you have eye-letted or un-eye-letted rims (eye-letted being stronger, but un-eye-letted being lighter)
ilikeriding
I would have thought the answer was already staring you in the face, or perhaps written on your forehead. Edited May 11, 2007 by afroman
