You can hardly slag diamond back off for copying another frame. everyone does it iv ridden one and i have to say they feel great to ride really nice on the back wheel. Spec is good as well. For 600 quid your getting what is essentially a pitbull. Diamond back are just branching out into another area of bikes trying to get more people into the sport by offering a cheap starter bikes in the lower model.

To be fair everything is copied from something to a certain extent.

Without copying things would progress too slowly. Also you need people to copy in order to motivate people to create origional ideas to be different.

That makes no sense.............. does it?

I confused myself

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a Diamondback that looked like the original Coust/T-Rex design a couple of years ago. But yeah, everyone is using frames like that, there's no point slagging them off for it.

Perhaps it's just that picture, but is there some weird downtube going on?

as has been said, a lot of frames (the ones made in taiwan) are just a 'designers' pick-n-mix of dropouts, gussets, and tubes, welded up by the same companies in the same factories in the same countries.

it's only a few bigger american companies who mass produce their own frames (giant, gt, marin, etc), or smaller companies going for quality over quantity, and for those you pay the premium of quality and brand appeal. However, with taiwanese models, you get the benefit of someone elses good design, at another companies better business price. I ain't complaining if it's the same old shiz. Only problem comes when companies spec piss poor tubing to cut costs

I think that that bike is realy nice and in essence it is a 05 pitbull but 05 pitbulls arnt sold anymore and because its a diamondback bike the frame will be cheap so people can still ride almost the smae geo as the pitbull 05. There is also a cheaper diamondback trials out with looks cool and im sure that ones original but weither you like diamondback or not by realising these cheap bikes there keeping the sport alive by asuring new riders can aford the sport . :turned:

Prefer their debut bike which Ian Drumond rode. just needed minor tweeks in the geometry, better paint job and graphics. is Martin Hawyes still riding for them after off-loading his trials services to Giant bicycles?

I think he may have just joined Ashton, he's on their team on the website.

if companies were really bothered about their frame designs they would patent the design features and not sign over the rights to reproduce to the companies manufacturing their frames for pennies.

Diamondback have just reproduced something already readily available.. if someone wants to buy it.. fair play.

ps do people still care about "hawzie" hes a tool and always has been...

I think the bike looks good. It's more choice, and a good priced full-bike - just the kind of thing someone starting out with trials would appreciate. They'd probably not want a ridiculously high BB and super-low bars. Don't forget, not every frame is targetted at every rider.

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, when I started it was GT or Trek, pretty much. Back then no-one really complained, they just saved hard to afford one of the few specific trials frames available. Every new frame that comes out is more choice - different colours and graphics if nothing else. I think it's good that companies are really recognising the demand and trying to meet it.

I think Giant off-loaded him... No, he's not on DiamondBack, but on Ashton as someone said.

1 thing i'm not slagging of the bike, i think its pretty cool for £600, it just makes me laugh that the last time they copied another design they ended up in court because of copyright (i know this because i used to work for halfords an had contact with them, plus one of my m8s is sponsored by them no names though an not saying who he/she works for, lol)

Then they, of all people would probably do it by the book. I don't think any frames are copyrighted or patented or whatever, it costs too much.
