Hey peeps,

Thinking of changing from a magura to vee. - Always have probs with them! take for ever to set-up, then go wrong!

Anyone got anything to say about Vee's? Surely easier to set-up, less to go wrong, cheaper and you can get Vee to Hs33 pad adaptors?...

And they must work just as good set-up right?

Cheers,

DaN (Y)

I voted yes as in go for V's think thats right poll is a little confusing >_<

A decent V locks better and feels lighter on the finger than a Maggy, they work very well backwards.

Just make sure you get a decent setup or you might aswell not bother

Its a bit of the old random answer situation

Person 1: You want beans on toast for dinner or boiled horse turd?

Person 2: Yes

Person 1:  and thats to which possible answer?

Try a vee out, you might be pleasantly suprised ;)

Vee brake gets my vote... (if you can vote? yes or no.)

It's abit like rock paper scissors. Discs are the toilet and they beat the rock, paper and scissors.

God its late!

edit: eh my clock says its 1:12am?

voted for Vee... do it mate, u wont regret it!

like someone before me said... make sure u geta decent setup. I personally run xtr lever, odyssey linear slick cable, ultimate arms. Its awesome... best feel ever.

I made the change few years back and wont ever go bk to maguras. vees are simpler, lighter, better feel imo, easier to maintain, better hold then maguras - dependent on pads of course.

Vees dont freeze ;)

I have to say i am another vee brake guy, i am running avid SD7 levers, linear slick dable (a must have!) ultimate arms and koxx green rubber and the brake is imense, you will find that the brake will not be as bitey as a magura but the hold will be so much better.

Also like has already been said it is possible to get a vee to feel soooooo much better than any magura, anybody who has tried my brake has always been surprised at hoe smooth and light my rear brake is, and then how awsome it works.

Plus they can be silent and still work awsome!

sums it up for me, everytime i use a magura now, i get scared, apart from joe mahers maggy, which in the short time i tried it, came very close/on par with my v brake-mainly down to the pads i'm reckoning :P

Hey guys,

Sorry about the poll people, first time using it! - n00b!

What vee's would people suggest using?? - can you provide any links for good ones?? not the £70 pair on tarty!

thanks for your suggestions,

Dan

P.S - I deffo going to change to Vee's, they must be so much more simpler to use!

well the 70quid pair is what alot of us use, cos we are pimps ;)

they are worth it in my eyes, sealed bearings, cnc arms, the ability to the run the noodle either side, etc

on a budget, deore or sd7 arms are both awesome, and VERY cheap, infact the only reasons to run ultimates over these 2 is a little more stiffness (resulting in more power) and bearings don't wobble like bushings, so there is minimal squeal (usually none) :) bigman ran a deore for ages til he bought my spare ultimate, he isn't a shit rider and has a little more beef to support than most, so if he has no troubles, you definitely shouldn't (assuming you are lighter than bigman)

DON'T get anything with parallel push, so that arch rivals, xtr, xt, etc-its wank

good move mate... im sur eyoull luv it!

necessary parts - Odyssey linear slick cable (Y)(Y)

levers - xtrs are nice and feel better then most (cheap on chainreaction!)

or use xts, sd7s, or if u feel like being a pimp ultimates... wider profile lever.. personal opinion over which feels best

calipers - definately recommend sd7s, ultimates... stay away from xt/xtrs for the rear anyways. the parallel push thing is bollox!!

ask bigman, ali c etc for setup tips/advice

ps- thanks fo you advice on the booster bigman (Y)

Budget Setup:

DeWHORE calipers, SD7 Levers, Linear Slic Cable, Heatsink backings and whatever your favorite pad is...

Grease the posts and stick some finishline wet xc lube down the cables

But not to much wet xc lube, other wise it can work against you, as i found out before :P just use a few drops and it will be as if there is no cable at all!

mighty impressed with the Rock pads i got for my front v. only using Acera-X arms and Avis AD-1 lever, with short scrappy cable. plenty stiff enough, and the rock pads are vicious! Tis a nice front setup, and i'm sure the pads would be equally at home on a smooth rear rim (i'm using a XM719 silver with no grind and its immense)

big thanks to Tartybikes for the recommendation of pads

If i could get any frame with vee mounts i would always go with a vee. Just i'm not a fan of the adapters although the Heatsink ones seemed to work well for the short period that i did use them.

Also Heatsink reds don't wear on a grind. Well they do i just mean not like some of the maggie pads do. I 'spose you could compare them to Koxx browns lastability.

So how do I go about getting these parts? - DeWHORE calipers? Where's they from then...

EdiT - Been having a look around, adding up all the parts i'll need and they seem to be a touch more expensive than a maggie, perhaps I should just buy a new magura! But think Vee's would be so much simpler!

dewhore=deore :P

pay less and have an inferior brake...how much do you value your arse/teeth?

once you have bought it, thats it...you pay the extra for quality and reliability

DeWHORE = Deore, available just about anywhere ;)

The cables can be found on ebay or any BMX shop such as alansbmx.com, levers are probably cheapest on CRC where you can also get the caliper. Pads will depend on what you want as to where you can get them from.

As for being more than a Magura, you get what you pay for - really. I've ridden vee's for ever and I rarely come across a bike with a brake set-up I like and trust as much as my own that isn't based around a rim caked in tar. OK i've gone down the pimped route with Ultimates, XTR levers and Linear Slick cables but a good set up can be found for just a few quid more than a set of Maguras and once assembled they're completely hassle free. Make th change, deep down you know you want to.

EDIT: damn you Paul, beat me to it

Thanks for all your support and info. Vee-Brake ***! (Y)

:)

Indeed.

I'm riding a vee also;

Dewhore calipers

STX lever

El'cheapo booster

KOXX Bloxx Greens in plaz backings

I really couldnt ask for a brake with better performance, maybe better lever though... But it holds like a b*****d!

I've recently whipped off my rear Magura and popped on a Vee brake to match the front one I've had on since I built the bike up.

What I like about Vees is that you can get excellent performance with some of the simplest arms & levers, coupled with decent pads of course!

It's also great how quick Vees are to set up straight with the rim compared to Maguras (Y)

No prizes for guessing which Vee pads I use :)
