Tony Harrison
ian, me and danny found a shithot place you'd wanna go to in northwich on the canal! Looks like the place on robocop!Danny texted me last weekend. You mean the huge Soda Ash Works? If so, I've been there before and it's awesome! They're starting to demolish it now which is a shame. What were you doing up that way then? You got a motorbike yet?I've just got back from 5 days in London and Paris, which included the Catacombs, a high profile London skyscraper development and an active British Nuclear Group site. I took about 700 photos in total, and won't have a chance to look at them until tonight, but I'll post a few up when I'm done. Seems strange that UE means so much to me that I actually went to another country specifically with that in mind. Was an excellent trip though, with plenty of scary/funny moments. Tony Harrison
Nah, just go to the unused bit on the other side of the canal, then cross the conveyor over the canal. Then you can get into the 'live' part...Bongo, funnily enough the guy that first explored the Northwich works has an R6!! I'd like one but can't justify running a car and a bike right now. Tony Harrison
Yeah, doesn't seem like a year. Probably see you there again this year, unless I get myself sorted and bring my camera to Rampworx. Too much to do at work, plus I'm trying to sort out a holiday. Need more time...
Gavyn.
Yes, but Scottish security guards are renowned down here for being hard bastards!! Heading up to Scotland soon all being well, so I'll have to be careful...yer if you do come to scotland definatly avoid the small single man security gaurds at quarrys, etc. they know they can't give you into trouble for being there so they just kick the f**k out of you instead. Tony Harrison
You shouldn't! I remember when I first heard of 'urban exploration' I did a websearch and found pictures of people infiltrating live sites, going down underground tunnels, climbing stuff, etc. I was blown away by the photos of huge derelict asylums and mills. It wasn't until a couple of years later that I just jumped in and started doing stuff, and before long I'd met the guys behind the websites I'd seen and been to a lot of the locations. With an activity like this there are endless 'levels' - it's a bit like a giant computer game sometimes. It's amazing what you can find on your doorstep, and often you'll find other friends who have a similar interest. The first places I went were with bike people, just exploring old buildings and railways when we were bored of riding.
Davey
It's amazing what you can find on your doorstep, and often you'll find other friends who have a similar interest. The first places I went were with bike people, just exploring old buildings and railways when we were bored of riding.Too right!I checked out www.28dayslater.co.uk and saw everyone going on about Severalls. I live in Colchester and have done for years and when anyone says Severalls they're generally talking about the industrial estate, so I was like "What on earth is so great about that" because it's not derelict or anything, I worked there for a while, but when I looked and saw it was an asylum I was like "Where the hell is that" and it turns out it's right near my ex girlfriends house, and I never even realised it was there, it's HUGE!We drove down there last night and there's lots of fencing and we assumed it was all fenced off, so came home and I went on MSN maps using the birds eye view and checked it out, saw all the fences we saw from the car but it looks like the front is pretty easy access once you sneak past the guards, no fences at all, so me and my housemate are gonna give it a go soon.I love this kinda stuff, used to do it when I was young (without realising it was an actual kinda hobby). I used to live in Tiptree and there was a book printers called Tiptree Book Services which closed and the building was abandoned and me and my mates used to go in there and look around, was all sorts in there, computers and books and stuff, was really cool, had a great time sneaking round avoiding the guards. Unfortunately it's been knocked down a good few years now and there's a Tesco's and a bunch of houses in it's place but I looked on MSN maps and the arial maps are so old it's still on them, brought back memories!!Davey
Tony Harrison
Severalls is a famous UE haunt - it's been explore 1000s of times. Despite it being in poor condition now, it's a pretty good example of a full-size asylum. Unfortunately some parts (such as the main hall, which was torched) have been knocked down. I think time is running out for that place.Just be careful in there. Some parts are pretty rotten and floors may be unsafe. I've never been myself but if you get stuck for a way in, you could try sending a PM to someone on 28DL who's been recently. If you have no luck, let me know. Seems odd that they just knocked that down. I hear it's been sold so maybe it's days are numbered as you say, but I gotta see it before it goes, I mean it's right on my doorstep! I'll let you know how it goes, but I'm no photographer so won't have snaps I doubt!Davey
Tony Harrison
That's cool, it's not about the photos anyway. When I first went to a significant sized place I didn't think to take a camera. It was only once I'd been a few times that I started taking photos. They were really bad at first, but photography is one of those things where practice makes all the difference. Part of it for me though is documenting things that won't be around anymore.Regardless, it'll still be interesting to hear how you get on. Tony Harrison
Looks good, but mighty rotten! Nice to see those documents there, and the swimming pool is quite rare. Reminds me of St Georges hospital in Stafford.
