Trials Artwork

Right then, time to put my artistic talents to some use

Main thing i'm trying to find out is if i was to do something like this would people want them? I think for a start, i'd be offering the simple shades of grayscale images, the kind you see of michael caine and john travolta from the italian job and pulp fiction. I could do the image of anyone you wanted and it would be painted onto a stretched canvas using acrylics (i prefer them to oil).

Now i know these are of tunni, but they could be anything, could be yourself, an image you like etc etc. It would probably be polite to ask permission if its someone elses photo though.

An a4 canvas costs around £3 so i wouldn't want to make the actual painting much more expensive than that. Maybe around the £10-15 mark. Obviously different size canvas's cost more so you'd have to ask and i'd let you know roughly how much.

Heres one i did earlier:

Okay, quite a bit of interest in these. Enough for me to go ahead and start taking orders for them anyway. Send me a pm with a photo of your choice, tell me what style/colour scheme you want and how big (dimension wise A4,A3 etc) and i'll get back to you with a price estimate and time estimate.

My msn address is krisboats@hotmail.com, email me pictures, PM me them or just talk it through with me over msn, i dont mind.

You could just photoshop it yourself, and give the file to one of those Canvas printing companies and get them to do it. Sure it's not in paint, but its not like its an original image, your just copying a photograph - maybe even masking it out.

This thing is being overdone to death now - everyone seems to be doing it as it requires no talent, they're cheap to knock up and you can make easy money from it. To me that moves it so far away from being a piece of art...those photoshopped pictures had far too many layers in them anyway - so they wouldnt even come out like that.

it seems a real bastardisation of art...but possibly a good bit of business.

Had this idea myself once while cruising past an art shop. Couldn't be doing with paints and canvas though... goodluck Kris , hope you get some business! (Y)

Best getting some pics/examples up, those PS shots don't do the real thing justice from what I've seen.

I think it is a good idea, If your willing to take numerous orders, put the time and effort into it, and deffinately do the paintings yourself (As appose to taking them to a printing type place), could you do other pictures other then trials ones? ;)

Good luck with it all. :)

With regards to people asking about various colours/pics etc, just let me know what you want and i'll do it.

Well done, let us know what the end result looks like - I'm sure you will anyway. I think it's a good idea, but £10 seems far too cheap for the time I imagine it would take.

yea i would agree, apart from the fact kris seems to have a [understatement of this thread]slight interest in art[/understatement of this thread]. therefore if he enjoys painting, its money for fun, even if it is almost a pittance. i mean i dislike my job, not enough to quit, but it pays well, hence the reason i do it. if someone said to me, you could go work as a dirtbike rider/trials rider/any other hobby i may have with no pressure to perform etc. for just enough to get by on, id well do it, and with kris its just a bit of extra cash.

They are pretty tough yeah, their bound to thick wooden slats on the back, and i'd pad the inside with polystyrene or bubblewrape then put sheets of thick cardboard each side to stop it getting punctured. Then wrap it all up and put it in a box.

I'd have some if you went ahead with it! I think your probably asking for too little though! Personally I would charge the customer P+P, materials (inc canvas) cost and then add at least £10 labour on top! (Minimum) I dont know anything about art but I dont think you would be making anything on those at that price?
