Matthew_Gibson
I'm thinking of getting myself one. I'll be building my own wheels from now on. Something to know how to do. and I'd rather save £10-£15. I know I can get a very good job for that price, but that will eventually die on me so i will need to true it back.ANYWAY, I'm looking at the Trax oneJust wondered if any of you people have any experience with these? work in a shop, or out like that, I can get one for £33.99 with staff discount. But will it be much good? Anyone got any better ones for below £50?Thanks Matt!
Ash-Kennard
mate, have you not considered just using your frame/forks depending on the wheel? thats what i have always used, i not only allows you to build the wheel central, you can dish it perfectly depending on how your pads are set up, and you can do it on ridesEDIT: i generally, lace, tension, true straight, whack it in the frame then dish away Edited May 3, 2007 by ash-kennard

CurtisRider
i found the cheap jigs to be shite, better off using the frame/fork methodthen again i own one of these:so everything seems shite now in comparison!

Fish-Finger-er
made one for a rear wheel out of an old skool set of bike forks from like a old bike with sturmey archer rear hubs(with real thin steel forks). so just heated and splayed the legs out till it was at 135mm and tweaked the drop outs straight, then welded tabs onto it, with a plate attached to the tabs that is semi free to rotate (stays in place, bt can move with minimal hand force), then tapped a thread in the end of the plates, and got some wingbolts and made pointed ends on them, works perfectly and is more reliable than pencils and cable ties on a frame. also cost nothing(bike was in a skip with a folded over rear end) apart from like 42p each for the wingbolts
basher
I think its worth it and makes things easier and you can true it alot more accurate. And to who ever said its better to do in frame because you can get it striaght in frame, well you can get them centered in the jig there should be no need for dishing as you can just true it accurate to the centre of the jig. I use one and i never have to dish me wheel over to one side afterwards. The one problem is that i think the trax one is made for 20 inch and 26 inch wheels therefore . When you use a 19 inch wheel the prongs for trueing dont quite reach the rim you can still use the jig and everything though fine.

I ride a stock anyway so done what that truoble. Another thing! see the two like pointer things thta rub on the rim when its untrue, does each one move one its own, or are they bothe connected so they move toegther! Do yo9u have one yourself? if you do. So you mind 9if poss) taking a few pics of that area. Thanks!

Thanks!Yeah i do have one and the prongs are on a thread of there own each one so you can adjust each one seperately by screwing it in or out and they both move up and down seperately aswell, its all adjustable. And the paddle like thing goes up and down and the end adjusts up and down aswell so your able to get any eggs out of the wheel. Quite a good jig. And like people have said you can do it when the wheels i your frame by measuring the distance from the brake clamps or how the pads are set up.
