Would A Double Front Brake Work?

Recommended Posts

Pointless.

The finger pull power would split between two brakes so each one would receive 50%. Also the bigger amount of cylinders would increase the friction inside the braking system, hence decreasing the power even more.

Another problem with running maggie and hope would be the oils. The oils needed for a maggie are different to the hope oils :( bad idea !!

Ben

It works in theory but in practice it doesn't work very well as your wheel needs to be perfectly true and your disc brake perfectly straight, faced and set up.

Things which don't tend to last in trials riding.

Very True :)

you could probably do it with a vee and cable disk when you think about it just running one cable cos as you pull the lever the vee pads would move in towards the rim and where the cable runs down to the disk would move up

wouldnt it be hard to set them up though as you wouldnt want one on half lock and the other on full you would want them even but im sure it could be done

stick with one brake though and just set em up proper

vee- new cables

disk- bed the disk in and cool it down with water

maggy- grind/ bleed

Maggie brakes don't need much mechanical advantage to work, disc brakes do. Thus connecting the two is pointless.

Yer i agree, just had a idea and wondered what other people thort of it :D

Good idea that, never really thort of that :S

That would proberly just be as strong as a normaly mono trial though :)

It oould work but there is really not point in it. A single brake is fine on the front, disc. v or ,maggy. Also there would also be a serious issue when setting it up as however it was hydraulic or cable it would be near impossible to get them to lock at the same time.

Then there is the weight to power ratio, its just really not worth all the extra weight for very little gains.

Someone has done it browse OTN, I think it was on there, to be fair its a pretty stupid idea as there are hardly any advantages of it and it will be really hard to impliment.

well i think if i was that bored and i actually had time to do it i would try it, but like the guys say above one brake is enough my avid vee is wikid for the front wih plaz pads i set it up near perfect for how i like it

and who wants a heavy front wnd with two brake on the front when one clearly is enough

Havent read the topic, just glanced over a few posts.

Anyway! I saw in the supercycles store years ago, and there was a shooter with vee and disk. Looked over the top. Don't know how it worked. I was too small to ride a 26" wheeler

I saw a cheap bike advertised on billboards and it seemed it had vee and disc on front too. But after taking a closer look, it was in fact just a vee and mere rotor even without caliper.

i no some1 who has a double disk on the front its cable they split the bable and made it 1 whole 1 some how and it works amazing

how the f*ck do you run 2 rotors on the front? id like to know what hub he has, what forks he has and what disc brake he has. If you're wondering as to why im bewildered, have a look at an ordinary disc hub

large_140silver.jpg

1 side of disc tabs. for 2, you'd need disc tabs on BOTH sides :S

I think it is no problem to do a double disc hub shell if only someone has access to a cnc mashine. Also welding an additional disc tab to the right fork leg shouldn't be any problem (we are not talking about strength of such a solution here).

think how far you hav tto pull the lever in to engage the brake! youd have to pull it in twice as far to engage 2 brakes so then it would probs hit the bars unless u set it up completely perfect... but i dought you could get it that fine...

Not if you run cable disc and a splitter.

Anyway I don't want to add any more fuel to this pointless idea.

Slightly off topic, I have a Magura Louise disc caliper litted to a Magura HS33 lever - it's a disc with TPA and it works really well. (Originally done as there was an old Louise caliper sat around at work so I thought I'd make use of it.

Double discs have been done in the past - Marzocchis circa 1998 had two disc mounts.

People have done front and rear mounted Vs on Pace forks - easy to do as the mounts clamp onto the carbon/alu legs.

Haven't yet seen disc and magura or V and cable disc though.
