Rebelistic
I've had koxx red pads for a while with a ground tryall rim. All seemed pritty good.I replaced my rim with a new one and ground it - it seemd good for a while (a couple of weeks), then performance dropped (didn't hold aswell + didn't squeak).I've re-ground the rim (and the pads) again and it worked well for about a day and then performance dropped again.Any ideas why this may be happening? - Could it be my grinder disc getting warn and not grinding very deep? The break pads are quite warn down but still have plenty of material left. Thanks for your help,John
basher
Could be the rim thats making it not so good, as different rims are different hardnesses. Some rims are harder than others and some are softer as is why some pads work better on specific rims.
Rebelistic
My new rims a tryall too though. My old rim was 2nd hand and probably an older model but both look the same.

NVWOCI WVS
pull the lever harder edit: does the brake need bleeding? do you use a booster? both of these could help alot! Edited April 24, 2007 by samdoman
Rebelistic
The break feels solid enough so I guess it doesn't need bleeding and I do use a booster.I think I'll have to try a new disc for the grinder or maybe some different pads - I'm pretty sure the problem is not enough friction between pads and rim.Untill then I'll have to pull the lever harder Cheers
Guest
Before you buy anything, take a hack saw to your grinding disc and cut a few slots around it at say 2 cm intervals around the circumferance, that's what's I do when my grinds are getting a bit shitty and it usually helps. Concussion
I'm not trying to be funny, and I know this doesn't help you, but this is why I don't bother with a grind. I read about more people having problems with grinds/pads/rim materials/stone disks/metal disks etc, than I do with people using any smooth rim with a little tar.Seriously, what the point? Use tar IMO!

Rebelistic
Hi, thanks for the replies - I meant to reply sooner but couldn't get on an XP PC. Jon mate, its Boumsong and Krisboats, we recommend new pads, maybe plazzmatics or Alic C joyoads..or even rock greens...ps, we've nbeen down the opub, will literatew this on th emorning..Yeah I think I'll get some new pads - I don't care how fast they wear, as long as they perform well.Although koxx reds are supposed to be good though? Before you buy anything, take a hack saw to your grinding disc and cut a few slots around it at say 2 cm intervals around the circumferance, that's what's I do when my grinds are getting a bit shitty and it usually helps. Is that safe? - I can imagine the disc shattering.I got a diamond cutting disc with the grinder, I could try that - don't want to slice through the rim though I do sometimes ride in the wet so smooth rim with tar's not the best option.I'll have to get something sorted out soon as I find riding with a good break so much easier.Cheers,John
