Carbon Bars..........

Hi everyone,

I'm having no luck finding anything with the search button so I figured I'd just ask...

Has anyone got any advice on a bar / stem combo?

I've been looking at getting both in Carbon for the fanciness of it all but would like a little feedback, if possible, on what's worth buying.

This is the stem I'm thinking of: 12546.jpg

And for the bars I was thinking of either the Onza Flats or the V!z??

All opinions welcome.

I thought carbon stems were a big no no in trials.

I love my onza carbon bars mind, they're the 30" raisers, had the 28" flats befor and they were good too. :)

I though 90% of carbon bars have alu inserts? just to add to the strenth.. only racer bars are pure carbon i think?

also Ali C runs a carbon stem, only for light weight competition use, for the reason its weak and not good at shock loading...

upta you, dont think its a good idea, Onza Carbon bars are probably your best bet!!

Ive been running Viz carbon bars for a couple years now.

They seem strong enough.

Even split the weave, and bent the alu insert in the left end of the bar the 1st week I got them.

Still running.

My only complaint is that they are too thin (end to end)

That's cool enough, might give the stem a miss so.

Are there alot of instances of failures in CF bars?

I dont quite get what you mean, but if im thinking right haha you mean people breaking them?

The carbon rapping can break, fray or even crank. Carbon is not a shock loading material hence why its not massivly used in trials because of the constant landing pulling and force on the bars. ide drops, sidehop front to backs, pulling landing on the bars due to weight shifting.

understand?

I have used carbon bar about 5 years now without any problems. I Bought it from Sweden (via Matrin Kleivard), it's very strong and it's really FULL carbon. Weight is 170g, wide 740mm.

Carbon gives you a much softer feeling at the bike and it's shock absorbing for hands and arms...

Is that a Carbocomp bar? I heard they all snapped with ease?

Anyways, I've been running the Pazzaz risers for 3 years now with no problems at all, can't fault them.

yea your basicaly right, theyre alu bars with a whole one layer of carbon over to... haha its just for looks as carbon in that shape would be sooooooo weak... if you were ta make a pure carbon bar as strong as lets say zoo! bars then the bar would have to be like 2" thick..lol and it would be heavier. lol

Well no, look at Easton bars. The MonkeyLight DH ones are all carbon (other than inserts) and they're neither 2" thick nor weaker than Zoo bars.

First edition i guess?

They are about 1,5mm thick at end of the bar, 2nd bars are at least 2,5mm thick at same place...

yep, it snapped after like 2 week though, it has the spectra logos and it was on my bianchi ilions when i bought it.
