It's an excuse to pull over someone who looks young and/or if your car is modified they will stop you and check if your insurance is valid (mods declared). They know it's not your tax.

I didnt think the database the police use can tell about mods etc. it literally says insurance, or no insurance.

you can file a complaint of harassment if you wnat but it may not get very far.

yeah they'll see a modded car, pull it over and say "tax is out of date young man" or whatever and then "oh I see your car has mods, are they declared?" etc etc. Id be surprised if they use the database in these circumstances at all

Couldn't say for sure mate but I've been stopped before in a mates car and asked about mods etc. and that they were going to check. Best not to risk it though!

I get stopped alot...

Have a modified car with tinted windows, got pulled over twice in the same day. I still had the stop-check ticket with me but they didn't want to see it...

After asking for a reason why i was stopped, their badge numbers and name's they let me go on...

Know your rights, and don't feel afraid so you can't argue your point - if you don't argue they'll get away with murder - trust me. My mum is a pig!

When I was involved in a 3 car pile up (minor shunt) I was the only one who the Police officer took the time to ring the station to check I was insured, and I was also breathalised.

I guess I should be flattered that I still look young enough to be a menace to society!

Seriously though, when I lived in the West Midlands the local freebie paper had a crime report section which listed all the minor points they'd managed to pin on drivers which read like they were spot checks. Make sure you have enough tread on all your tyres because that was a common one. I wonder if they could fine you for only having one working light out of a pair which is quite common.

On my way home every evening I always see a few drivers with a mobile to their ear, or parked dangerously with a mobile to their ear. That's something that could be policed better.

Steve

Think you've got it bad, they pulled me because my car wasn't one colour...

Twice.

I got pulled over on the bike on sunday but I guess I was asking for it. The number plate was tiny on my bike, and they were doing a speed trap - went through at 50 in a 40. Mega rural area though, so should have been a 60!

Just got a bit of a telling off and a fixed notice. Joe - You've got all your mods declared haven't you? Im sure I remember you saying.

They can't find out details about your insurance from the car, it would have to be a follow up call to your insurers for that. They just find out whether the car has insurance or not. End of.

I get pulled quite a bit, no rear seats etc.

there is only one thing not 100% legal and they need a special bit of kit to tell that so im always ok. They almost seem annoyed when they cant find anything wrong with it hahaha

tip if you dont want police attention dont be 19 and drive a vtr....

gutted. drive a skoda, they dont stop you then :P

Only because they can't be bothered with the hassle of having to help bump start it afterwards ;)

I've never been pulled over 'cos my car is only suitable for people over 40 with at least 2 kids.

(Or an 18 year old trials rider)

Sounds familiar :)

I don't get it.

Had it been me, i'd have taken my tax disc from the window and showed it to them, and then said 'thank you officer have a good day' anything more than that and they clearly have not stopped you to check your tax so i'd take down their badge number and ask for a record of the stop.

don't let them do whatever they want, they rely on you not knowing what they can and can't do...

why would that make a difference? its more like theyd pull u over for driving like a tit, its not like its a fast or expensive car so why would they otherwise?

there's being nice, and bending over for them, don't mistake the two for the same thing...

They will f**k you given the chance.

Meh the police when i got pulled over on my scooter, doing 50 in a 30, (was going into a 40 limit), overtaking on wrong side of road, had no L plates (get ripped off and nicked, and me and my mates ride into the back of each other so they come off) listening to muic with my headphones,

But i was pleasant to them accepted that i had driven on the wrong side of more than 1 island (traffic on 1 side of the road, nothing on the other, nice straight road) they did check my licence, and my registration plate, (but its a total chav mobile so i dont blame them) and all i got was a 30quid fine for breaking the highway code...

i was sooo lucky not to loose my licence and they were very nice, shook his hand and left 30 quid lighter!
