Smo™
Hey guys - I'm looking to buy a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22" widescreen monitor for my PS3 (see below).I'm having a hard time sourcing one of these in the UK - everywhere seems to be out of stock. I was wondering if anybody could recommend me to a store and/or somewhere that would import one for me (maybe from the US or something).Secondly, as this will be used for my PS3 and doesn't have onboard speakers (which would suck anyway) I'm after some kind of 5.1 system and/or a cable by which I can connect the PS3 to the 226BW and sound arrangement.Cheers. Smo™
After some research that monitor will not support the fully blown 1080p HD resolution so I'm looking into either a Dell 2407WFP A04 or BenQ FP241W. Still need to sort out audio though!
tomturd
Not what you're looking for I know, but thought you may just like to check this out anyway as a possible (cheap) alternative.http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3348756/LG_M...er/Product.html

Now I have to spend almost twice as much just on the monitor alone, I still need to source my audio.Bugger.
James Quigley
What's wrong with the Audio you're using for your 360?Could you not get a switch type thing to run both? Edited April 23, 2007 by ReverendJQ
Smo™
What's wrong with the Audio you're using for your 360?Could you not get a switch type thing to run both?I need some kind of cable mate - I'm looking into it at the moment. The speakers for my PC are Dell 5.1 specific so I can't use those and the ones for my 360 aren't surround, just desktop stereo with a sub. Looks like Barry can help me out getting the monitor and I can pay him back over the summer so it's the audio I'm concerned about - thinking about connecting it to a seperate system with an optic cable.Argh, it's so complicated. Looks like I'm borrowing to get the monitor but I'll have to shell out myself for the audio setup, whatever the hell it might be.
RicH_87
http://www.waratah.co.uk/thats where i got my 32" samsung LCD TV from for my 360 well over a year ago now.was much, much cheaper than everywhere else (like £120 at least if i remember).also, i have a 19" samsung syncmaster 940bw for my pc, which i know people use for 360, and it's a very good monitor. plus it has a built in switch so you can attach both pc and 360 if you wish and just swap between the two using the button on the front.imo, either get a 24" tv, or a 19" monitor. don't try and go half way, 19" is plenty big enough and will look better than a 22", and if you are going to get a 22" monitor you might as-well just buy a 24" tv and do it properly.also, no matter what you do, use an AVG cable. much better quality picture imo. I'm getting a 24" LCD HDCP monitor which supports 1080p/BluRay/HD-DVD etc. but I'll most likely use DVI or HDMI rather than VGA for use with 1080p.Ta for the input though, I'll check that site out. VGA requires conversion to analogue from the device (computer, xbox etc) then re-conversion to digital by the screen. In the process the image is "calculated" to put the image back together but is no longer pixel for pixel like a digital connection would be, meaning its less detailed, vibrant and slightly fuzzier round the edges of things.Digital cables are far better as no conversion is neccessary, so each pixel on the display is as the device intended it to be, not the monitors "calculated" guestimation. RicH_87
haha yeh dammit, i always forget the letter order (i'm gonna just say i've worked a hard 6 hours with no break)anyway, embarrassing excuses aside....i was using component cables originally with my 360 and argued for months with my brother that they are better than the VGA cable he was using, however he talked me round and i decided to give it a try, and i'm being 100% honest the picture was a hell of a lot better. Just more smooth yet crisp at the same time. made the games look and feel much smoother and just nicer to look at.i don't know about the technicalities or anything, but between component and vga, my visual experience says vga is much better. i'm still pretty sure you can't get hdmi cables yet for 360....anyway, use what you like, i was just stating my own experience, though i don't ever play my 360 anymore so maybe i'm remembering it better than it was. however, i wouldn't recommend something i didn't think was good. Krisboats
Okay, after a bit of reading up, component isn't as good as vga. Although it should be because of it being digital, the vga has a better picture apparantly so you are right about that for the 360. Theres a hdmi cable for the 360 on the way but like you said, it isn't out yet. However, vga is still a much poorer connection type for use with his ps3, which can use both a dvi cable (dont think its released yet) and a hdmi one. The hdmi will produce a FAR better picture than the vga will as its purely digital and can carry far more information.
Smo™
Well I know which monitor I'm getting - it will be the Dell 2407WFP A04 24" (see below) so that's no longer a problem. Now I'm just looking to find a surround sound system with an optical input to run off the PS3 - I'll be using an HMDI to DVI cable from the PS3 to the monitor but still need the audio sorting.Edit: Managed to find myself a rather decent 5.1 surround system with optical input for roughly £200 - the Logitech Z-5450:All done! They don't have optical input, which is the whole point.
