hugh_b
should be fine without a grind but i would reccomend a very light grind, thast what i run an seriously you will not find a better pad, the noise is soo loud and the bite and hold is top notch. Just give it a very light grind and you wont need to re-grind for ageees. I have ridden in loads of dust, and chalky nasty stuff and just washed my rim when i got back but...the brake pads worked just as good no matter what. So i would advise a light grind and just clean you rim every so often unless you ride street then you wont have to do anything else. -Hugh

NileBrown™
There good pads , i used to run them on a smooth rim and it held well but don't get dust on the rim as it makes the pad sh*t and found that out the hard way! I run a medium grind and its brilliant a grips like no other pad (in my opinion)cheers Nile
Krisboats
Jonny ran his on a msooth rim for a little while and his brake was great, i ran mine on a grind and they were good despite me having it set up gay. Stuck them on boumsongs bike and they were fantastic, nice noise, great bite and hold.Fantastic pads.

JoNnY__Mc
rimjams work very well on a smooth rim with a smudge off tar they work even better on a medium grind

Rusevelt
Hmm, anyone here to dispute that Rock Pads are grabbier than Rimjams? i dont think anyone can dispute that rimjams are the loudest pads on the decibel level. Janson
you obviously never heard my cousts then sorry to be ignorant, but do the rimjams still have the retarded backing design?
ScotchDave
I believe rimjams went to Power Pad backings a fair wee while ago...EDIT Apparently they're now using CNC, even better. Edited April 22, 2007 by ScotchDave
Simpson
but do the rimjams still have the retarded backing design? They have a CNC'ed metal which is the white bit on thier designnever heard my cousts then Meh my cousts were silent, and in my opinion thats the main disadvantage for me about the rimjam is the ammount of sound they make! i personally prefer a silent running bike. RR_Trials
i personally prefer a silent running bike.I personally like it loud, as it give me more confidance that my brake is working.
Krisboats
I'm another loud brake lover... its the easiest way to check its working .
Ash-Kennard
sorry to be ignorant, but do the rimjams still have the retarded backing design?they are in CNC backings similar to the heatsink backings, they are available for refills too.I believe rimjams went to Power Pad backings a fair wee while ago...CNC...Meh my cousts were silentim guessing yours were in the plastic backings, mine were also silent in them, but when tom got his in some metal backings they were loud and held insanely well.i personally prefer a silent running bike.for sure, but a brake like vincents or stan shaws would be the best, silent until you really need to use it where it make a slight honkI personally like it loud, as it give me more confidance that my brake is working.fair play, but doesn't it piss you off a treat when you are riding in a school or somewhere and everyone comes in to moan that you are riding on stuff, yet they would never have noticed if your brake didn't propel 9876 decibels
Rusevelt
Wouldnt it be a neat idea to get, or borrow a Sound Pressure Level unit and measure the loudness of different brake pads to see which comes out top trumps. though as i stated before, Rimjam pads would probably win such a test hands down.
