Workstand

mad max

Recommended Posts

As i am about to start my new build shortly i am collecting the tools and so on to assist me, but i am sick of crawling about on my knees. :(

Can anyone recommend a cheap work stand. Most attach by the seat post and you all know that there is a lack of postage around here. :-

Thanks.

i prop my bike on the fridge get a camping pop up chair, and the cup holes act as bolt holder'ers tools lined out on lino... sorted! lol on a more usefull note, bike stands are too expensive talking like over 80quid and well above, most bike shops will use seat post holders nowadys as if you use a frame clamp it can void the frames waranty, but a seat clamp is kinda useless for a trials bike!

why not take it to a bike shop+get them to put it together? it's probably cheaper than a bike stand and your hardly ever going to use it. when i breifly worked in a bike shop i got so f**king sick of having to put the bikes in a stand to work on them :P

Thanks for the help, sometimes the answer is staring you right in the face. (good old tarty)

I have a few bikes and service them often. when working on gears fed up with working upside down and crawling around on the floor. Have to watch my back as i am no spring chicken :$

As always thanks everyone for the info (Y)

the cheapest one on there looks a little flimsy....not having a go just saying so dont come back with any sarky comments

We saw the guy at merlin using the same stand to do repairs on a DH rig and it stood up well to movement etc.

For £60 i think it is, is bloody cheap!

coffee table & a couple of bricks to balance the bikey against.

The nicer the table the better it works!! :)

Just pick a chair and sit in front of a wall. Then you have all the combinations of positioning the bike, upside down, on the bars, and the rear wheel up against the wall, or leaning upright sideways (that way you can adjust pretty much the height of any part of the bike to service)

And play your fav music... (that'll make you happy to spend an hour fiddling with the most annoying maintenance chores) ^_^

Fat Spanner do one:

its £99.00 and has a "roatational" head which makes it easy to adjust to fit ANY bike, it also is made from alloy so its nice and light and easy to travel with, ALL q/r mechanism so its easy to fold out and start working on something. if you need more details let me know. Also comes with a FREE tool tray (Y):) so you dont have to crawl on the floor, decent floor stands always start around £100.00 then plus tool trays etc etc.
