markrat
Ive been riding for years now but have noticed that over the last couple of years i haven`t really got any better, I mean the things i can do i can do better than i used to but i wanna learn new things. Any ideas on how to do this? Ive been told watching other people is a good way but I dont have alot of time to go out and ride with other people. Or is it my bike. Ive got a Heavy Tools trials, Always found that it suited me because im fairly tall. What to you guys reckon?Cheers
Krisboats
The only way to really improve is to push yourself. When you first started you saw all these riders doing big gaps and decided you wanted to do that, and you did, you kept pushing yourself till you could do it. Then you don't seem to continue with pushing yourself. You get into a mentality that the level your at is good and that carrying on trying to get smoother will help you get further.... it doesn't. Continuing to go further gets you smoother. Make a gap out of pallets or rocks, just something thats generally moveable, and keep at it moving it a little bit each time till you can't make it. Move it just an inch or two further than that and keep trying it. You won't get it within a ride or two, because remember how long it took you to gradually get better at gapping in the first place? You couldn't get like 3-4 inches further every ride, it took weeks. Its the same despite you being a better rider.Gradually you'll get there and you'll see yourself improving, and when you come back to doing all the stuff before, it'll be easier, smoother and generally less difficult. ilikeriding
A lighter bike would help, if you dont have much time to ride with other people I'd try to watch videos of riders not much better than yourself and try and keep up with them. Ali C
Ali's top 3 ways of getting better:1) ride as often as possible, the more you ride, the better you get2) ride with someone better than you, riding with someone pushes you more than on your own even if they are not all that great, but someone better than you shows you techniques you might not otherwise pickup.3) Enter some comps, riding natural combined with riding with a bunch of good riders combined with a competative attitude is a really good way of getting better. chrishayton
the heavy tools isnt a bike for a tall rider. its short by todays standards. try a long frame, (control, pitbull etc) and you will likely notice a huge improvement
