I had a mono and it was good until the insides went last week, just got a revolver and acs and the engagement feels stiffer and I could immediately tell the difference between the 21 ep of the mono and the 36 of the acs. Also if your gonna spend the 80 quid on a mono/xc you could just get a revolver and a tensile with 60 ep for a tiny bit less.

Mono's and XC's generally dont stand up to trials abuse very well at all.

Ive had about 4 XC's and a couple of bulbs, If I didnt have my king and had your budget id get the pro 2, it really is worth the extra bit.

Save up and get a ProII matey, Before I had a ProII I had a Mono. Its was okay! Skipped on every ride though. Sometime it was a bit too notciable. The bearing are good. Never changed them in about a year. The freehub body will soon get eaten though, as the cogs dig in.

I've been running my ProII for a good 6 month now, NEVER skipped. solid engaments. Bolts are a bit soft though! (50p for hardend ones. Defo get them) I'm taking my apart and cleaning it tonight. So ill see how its doing inside! All hopes are pretty easy to look after, as you dont need tools to get into them, like Kings do (I think)

All in all! SAVE UP! they are worth the extra money!

An XC should be every bit as a strong as a Pro II. They are basically the same inside, just with 3 pawls instead of 4. However, 3 pawls engage at the same time. So it's technically a little stronger.

Dave @ thinkbikes.com still runs an XC on the rear. He's had that for years without problems, and it's never really held his riding back. More engagements do feel a little nicer though :)

I have just bought a DMR Revolver with a Tensile freewheel for my street bike, but I haven't come to a conclusion on how good they are yet - my hopes are high!

What I would say, is that if you're buying new - spend the extra money and get a Pro II or a DMR. However, you can probably find a second hand XC somewhere for £30 and should fit anyone's budget. Of course, if it goes wrong, Hope's warranty and support are excellent. Getting a second hand king sorted out on the other hand.....

Less engagement points on the XC and Mono though??!

Don't rush! Just wait and buy a Pro II or a secondhand King!

I think you meant "Or a tenner cheaper: http://tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?id=10058 :) "

When i rang up chain reaction they said they sold all the others and only have the new revised ones in all the colours except gold. Plus the postage is free :D

Yeah, but that was already mentioned ;)

I thought the main concern was wether it was strong enough. And I'm saying, it's just as strong as the Pro II.

Well actually, the pro 2 is dishless, so the wheel itself will be stronger. The hope XC axle also flexes when force is applied to it when pedal hopping which results in the freehub body pressing on the ratchet, which both wears the freehub body and the ratchet, leading to eventual failure and constant skipping.

With the pro2 hope have seen this issue and reinforced the axle to prevent the same thing happening again.

I stand corrected! I didn't realise there was that great a difference. Taking the two apart, it's hard to see much difference side by side.

Ironically, I've had XC's since 2000 and never snapped an axle. Yet I snapped the axle on my Pro II!
