One Brake Catching

Recommended Posts

As I posted in my other topic, I just got my Zona Zip. It's my first trials bike and I've never had to maintain Maguras before.

It seems that one of the rear pads (the one the hose goes to first, on the left if you're looking toward the front of the bike) is rubbing against the rim. How does one go about fixing that? I did look in the FAQ and saw something about lazy brakes, but I didn't know if that was describing this situation.

Thanks.

First of all make sure that the wheel is in the centre, if that has moved sideways then one side of the brake will rub...

Otherwise, you just loosen the bolts that clamp the brake in place, move it so that the pads line up nice and squarely with the rim of the wheel with a couple of mm gap, and do the bolts back up. I'm sure you'll get used to adjusting your brakes soon enough.

Undo the mounting bolts. There is one either side of the caliper just undo these not to much so the bolts come out though just so everything is loose. And then move the caliper away from the rim ect so it is correct and then tighten up the bolts. You will see that around the caliper theres a sleeve http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?id=27 this sits in the 4bolt mounts and then the caliper slides pritty much inside this so you can get the correct postion of the pad on the rim. So just make sure that its sitting in the mounts alrite when you tighten the bolts up and your sorted its not a difficult thing to do jut dont be scared to fiddle as nothing can go wrong. Only thing i would say is never tighten the bolts up really tight, just tighten them up past pinch.

Thanks for the help, I did just loosen the mounts and reposition it. It just feels a bit daunting to be dealing with scary hydraulic brakes when I never have before.

But it's easy, huh? They're only a bit more complicated if you need to bleed them or change the hose, but you shouldn't need to do that.

Post a picture, may help. Also You could have the (red adjuster) TPA on the lever, tightened too much. Just loosen the TPA off as much as you can, Reset the cylinders so that the pads have a "1 or 2 mm" space between both pads and the rim. Then adjust the TPA so that the pads dont have any space between the cylinder and the backing of he pad.

cheers
