Forsale and wanted topics are banned in NM's. Fair enough. People did only sign up to sell stuff and new members forum was over run with FS topics, and there is a more likey event of getting ripped off.

But i was thinking when i was reading threw a topic on NM's, why are wanted topics banned?

Firstly, alot of new members sign up who arn't riding yet, and want to get into it. But they arn't allowed to ask if anyone has any starter bike for sale becuase it's against the rules. And it's very unlikely for a non rider to get validated anyway, because they won't really know what they're talking about becuase they've not ever had a bike.

Seems kinda unfair that people can't use this resorce to help get started.

Secondly, it's much more difficult to rip people off by getting into a 'wanted' deal than a 'for sale' deal, becuase the usual way of going about it is the payment is sent first, then when that's recived, the item is sent out. No real way of getting ripped off / scammed.

Also, there's not actually many wanted topics in new members, and probably never will be. The majority of topics closed in new members are forsale topics. So it's not like allowing wanted topics is really going to change anything in that sence.

I think it would be nice if it was allowed, then new members wont feel as shut out as they do now.

:)

Oh, and i already know what a strong argument against this will be, and that is that new memebers will technically be able to sell stuff - as it is being asked for. I'd guess that it would mainly be members offering items to a new memeber wanting something, but a new memebr would be able to. So that's a downside. But seing as though not many wanted topics are posted anyway, i can't really see that being a problem.

Maybe there should be a refs page, where say if a new member has brought 5 things off others, and all the deals went smoothly they could be validated providing they typed like a normal person. I think its a good suggestion Mr. Over Opinionated :) i voted yey

good idea with one downfall.

whats to stop someone saying they have what someone wants, reciving money then not sending anything.

There will allways be pricks out there ready to find a new scam.

I can see where your coming from, but the same could be said to buying something.

If your too trusting and dont do the proper groundwork your going to make yourself open to a rip off.

People who send cash to strangers trusting that they will deliver the goods is asking for trouble. And I know that 90% of the people on here are good honest citizens, but its the 10% that f**k everyone else over that makes these rules nessasary.

theres nothing to stop me going to a newbie, who has no idea what he is talking about, sending him some pictures of a random bike, promising them ill sell it to them, but once funds have hit my hand dissapeering. And what can they do, they dont have the full forum suport to help them, and they are usually young niaeve kids who just want to start riding.

But anyone can do that Lee. If its a member they can be more punished anyway.

JT is more getting at allowing New Members to post wanted stuff, on the bases that 90% are new riders and want bikes/parts to get started.

Good idea, with one down fall. Those 90% have no idea about etiquette, as in, not to waste days of peoples time when they could be selling it to a full member, being able to view refs and their last posts across the whole forum.

In New Members you don't just have the issue of people signing up to scam without past posting history, you also have it where most are below 15 and just see a part, want it, say they want it, then actually research it, rather then waiting. Kid on sugar really, just shouting wanting stuff and not thinking.

an incentive to become a full member

Exactly, thats the main reason. If you want to sell stuff, get validated. I'm validating people daily now (along with the other mods) so theres no excuses.

Other reasons include the huge amount of moderating it took when they *were* allowed (every other topic was FS/WTD), and the fact its incredibly easy to scam people if they have no reputation on the forum.

But members do that anyway, members also rip people off.

A wanted topic usually gets responses only from people who are already selling stuff and have posted a Fs: thread.

So why can't new members just browse the F/S forum?

Keyword being usually, people do have bit laying about they just never bother to sell.

I see what you're saying JT, but it's quite a complicated system to explain to people. Also, there should be an incentive to become a full member. It's not exactly hard if you're not an idiot.

It is hard to get validated. And alot of it is down to luck, it eaiser now there's more mods and they can validate. But poeple do still get missed.

Anyway, all the points raised are valid, so i'm content. Least i didn't get anyone telling me to STFU.

I think they should be aloud to buy things in NMC, but not sell anything...

How are they going to scam someone if they are buying something off them? Their the ones sending the money, once the person who is selling the part receives money, they can send item off... no scamming involved...

Personally, this rule is restricting our sport slightly... not allowing new members to buy parts to upgrade/actually own a bike, its making our sport stay small...

Same sort of thing JT was on about...

Wanted topic. = Wanting to buy something.

Then once someones said 'I have that! I'll sell it' then they buy it.

But whats to stop an NMC member getting in touch with the person who places the WANTED topic and saying, hey i got the part you wanted for XXX pounds, send XXX pounds to me and ill send you item, and never sending the item.

Just another chance for someone to get ripped off.
