Echo Not So Lite :)

The back of my bike seems to be rather heavy and i was wondering if it could be something to do with the fact my spokes are some kind of steel, would changing them to aluminium make a big difference to the weight or strength of my back wheel ?

With the components on my bike i would expect it to be rather light.

I have also looked on a few websites and my tyre (maxxis cc) seems to be much lighter than most other trials tyres.

The rear wheel is a profile mini cassette hub on try all rim built with mutiny bmx spokes i think.

so does any one know any non extreme fag ways of reducing the weight of a bike ?

thanks alot,

mike W

It is, your just being to picky. I had a Lite with the same back wheel as you but with a DX32.

Few things you could try.

Bottom Bracket. Try-all seem to be rather light. Also FSA ones seem even lighter than most.

Pedals. Not sure what to recommend but my Shimano Dx's are around 400grams.

Profile hub- Ti fun bolts with a Ti axle. Ti driver.

Lighter chain.

Thiner innertube.

[edit] also like said spokes. Ti spokes are available at around £2 each.

Also a front freewheel rather than a Profile. But now it would work out cheaper to buy ti parts.

Thats about it.

thanks for the replys, come to think of it my bb weighs a tonne! allthough i would rather have a strong bike than i light one so it would cause more trouble than its worth, i will have look about pedals and chains.

any chance of a link to the ti spokes please ? :)

thanks again,

If you've got decent parts, it gonna be as light as it's going to be. Back ends of trials bikes always seem heavy. It's the way they are. The biggest difference would be to go front freewheel. But i'd just forget about it and ride. (Y) The time you would spend changing everything, you could just ride and practise instead.

Indeed.

Rather than getting titanium spokes and bolts to lose weight you’d be far better off spending the money on other parts, you’ll save far more weight getting a lighter BB than getting anything titanium. If you write down the weights of your parts and then look at other parts and compare then you’ll quickly see what the best options are.
