B.E.A.U
Ok im not sure how to do a poll so ill just read posts.Basically when deng gave me my bike it was 18 16 tooth. But I changed it after 2 weeks to 18 16 and im really stuck.Ive always rode 18 16 and when I got my bike I thought it was still 18 16 so I just thought nothing of it. But now I don’t know what to have I gapped rather far on the 15 and side hops are really nice but with the 16 I may gap like a couple inch less etc but the front feels lighter don’t know how and im not sure what to do im remembering what they are both like to ride and the16 to me is like mod gear. This topic may sound silly but I want to get my bike-feeling ace. I may swap them around again and just see what happens but what do you lot ride. ThanksBeau
dave85
An easier gear will make the front end feel lighter, in general it'll improve control a bit, up to a point it improves static gaps and makes rolling gaps worse. You really need to try both back to back on similar riding dude.

dave85
Not entirely sure, I always think its got something to do with you putting less force through the pedals to move the bike about, so you dont need to pull so hard on the bars to balance that out. basher
I would say why the front end feels lighter is because when you backhop you pull the bars into you and kick at the same time. So if you have a lighter gear the kick is much easier and therefore you dont have to pull the bars with as much force therefore the front end feeling lighter.I would just say try both properly and then see what you think. Orgun_Donor
Ive always found a lighter gear more comfortable, Riding 18:16 at the moment, bike did come with 18:12 but then the change down to 18:14 made a huge difference in control and gapping. And then with 18:16 ive found a nice gear that makes the bike feel like it floats below me(18:12 is hard hard hard work in comparison and the bike feels like a ton weight just riding it around). The only trouble is i rode on Gav Bedfords ashton with 18:18 ratio. That was so nice, felt like i could gap huge(but didnt want to break his bike if i came off) but i would never be able to ride street with it.Generally trying to find a happy medium, do you want that extra inch, or something that doesnt feel like its hard work to go out riding?
