Tommy d
I am very pleased to announce the completion of my new bike! My old MAD frame broke over Christmas and this has been in progress since then. Finally managed to get the seat sorted, and the bottom bracket healthily bodged. On with the pictures: I tried to use the TF gallery but first it told me half of the pictures were too large (they are all the same size) and then I couldn't find a way to post them in here without them being huge anyway... never mind!Time for some geometry!Wheelbase: 1040mmChainstay length: 383mm as the wheel is currentlyBB height: +10ish, I don't have a way of measuring that very accurately...Head angle: Really no idea how to measure that but it should be 73ºAnd some parts for good measure:Frame: Iolobikes, horizontal dropouts, extra gusset behind BB on the drive side, maggie mounts below, V mounts on topForks: Saracen MAD 2005Headset: FSA Orbit UFBottom Bracket: Shimano (plus broken bodge spacer and cable tie )Cranks: Middleburn Pro Trials 22tFront Wheel: Alex DM24 on Mission hubBack Wheel: Mavic EX721 on Hope XCStem: Easton Vice 65mm 10ºBars: Easton EA50 25.4mmGrips: Ritchey WCS TruegripBrakes: HS33 2004?Booster: Echo 4-BoltFront Tyre: Michelin Wildgripper Hot S (Not good. If I was made of money I'd get something better.)Back Tyre: Maxxis Minion dual ply 2.35" 60aSinglespeed kit: Gusset 18tChain tugs: GussetChain: KMC Kool K710Pedals: V8sSaddle: DMR Expert MkIIphewI have no idea how much it weighs. Seems light to me... was incredibly light before I fitted the seat!I've been riding loads since I got it working cos it's so much fun! There might be a video around tomorrow... Simon
Holy christ that thing looks awful.Get the seat lower so its not a cross between a XC bike and a Barracuda Slum, and it'll look 100x better, and probably ride as much better too.Think i've work out why i think it looks bad. The top of the rear triangle, its just so long.
basher
Hmm im not sure what to make of it as for some reason it looks out of proportion. The seat doesn't look right on it and ruins the bike and also the forks just make it look weird some how. But other than that it look good. The frame looks sweet though when i look at that on its own and not at the whole bike. Hmm may be its just me.
RobinJI
Looks pretty damn nice. A lot like a 26" version of my bike! Shame the mounts being under there have forced the seat angle to be reeeaaallly steep. Think that's what makes it look weird. I'm sure it looks lush in reality. But I've always disliked steep seat angles in pictures, but not real life for some reason, same goes for the old pures. He seams to have adopted the oval down-tube permanently I guess, I wasn't expecting it at all on mine, but I can tell you they are solid as hell from knocks from bellow! Mines taken chunks out of local walls and is yet to dent. Could you get some closer pictures of the BB/chain-stay area? it looks pretty interesting from those pics. gilly
If he lowered the seat then there would be no point in having a seat.....it needs to be high enough to sit down on and pedal....I also know for a fact that this bike rides very very nicely and it's very nice to see a bike-shaped trials bike for once! Good boy Tom it's lushTry Zip tying your seat to the top tube, will make it look a thousand times better. If he's just gone to all the trouble of specifying a custom frame with a seat tube, do you really think he's going to pretend its not there and not use it? It's on the frame for a reason! Edited April 11, 2007 by gilly
Ducko
i also really like the frame alot!!

It's on the frame for a reason! Can he actually ride sitting down? It doesn't look high enough for that, Well you dont ride trials sitting down anyway, You sit down when your having a quick rest, therefore it wouldnt matter how low the seat is, They stopped making frames without seat post's for a reason, Because you don't really need one! You sit down when your riding between riding spots or riding to the place where you are riding for that day. This is a bike that can actually be used for short journeys as well as trials
craigjames
so with that geo its pretty much a steel replacement of the saracen?? nice i gotta say, does look a lil odd with the uber steep seat angle

My previous 3 frames all broke just behind the BB which is why I asked for the gusset there just in case (see pictures).Whoever mentioned the forks, they're kind of leftovers from the last bike... If I win the lottery I might get some black ones with V mounts...Like Dont you just... said, that angle is a result of the mounts underneath, and I thought I'd give them a try since I will probably want V brakes one day when I can afford them. The brake seems to work slightly better than it did on the old frame too if I'm not imagining it.Here's a couple of pictures of down below as requested: Was there anything particular you wanted to see? No idea if those pictures were any use...Just for fun here's a bonus pic of the bike with it's friend the Giant:And here they are in action:http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=96208
