ZHI_Chris
This is my friend's new bike. The frame and rims are designed and made by himself in a magnalium factory.Very light than aluminum. The frame is about 1050g. Edited April 10, 2007 by zhi

sUm
1050 g I wonder if Magnalium has any negative properties like high malleability or brittleness. I'd like to see how frames like this hold up though, because 1050 g is considerably lighter than even Koxx frames. I like the look of it, too. SCOTTY___
google is ur friend.Magnalium , alloy of aluminum and 5-50% magnesium. Although aluminum is weak and soft in the elemental state, aluminum alloyed with magnesium, manganese, zinc, tin, and zirconium to produce alloys useful in engineering materials. The strength and hardness of aluminum increases when it is alloyed with such substances as magnesium, manganese, nickel, chromium, zinc, iron, copper, and silicon. Magnalium lighter and more workable than aluminum is used in making metal mirrors and scientific instruments.guess it cant be that good for a bike frame :<
steve@banbury-trials
the rims look very nice but i doubt i could trust a frame weighing as little as that steve

ScotchDave
I do believe that malleability can be reduced by including copper in the alloy then heat treating it, might make it work....
Shaun H
Someone send him an Armourdillo quick! That bike must be like 8kg!?EDIT: That's a bit optimistic come to think of it, maybe 9kg? poopipe
So everyone who is saying Snowflake pattern spokes are weak have tried and tested them i presume?yeah. I was under the impression that sort of lacing pattern made the wheel more rigid vertically than a standard lace. interesting metal - from what people are saying it might dent a bit quicker than standard alloy but than again it doesn't sound like itll crack as easily. anyway - good job. I like it
