Sutty22
I've searched on this and can't seem to find what i'm looking for...Basically I've got a brand new Mono Trial front disc which I fitted tonight. I've gone through the set up and got it shimmed correctly (I think). How much difference can you notice once the pads have bedded in? At the moment the modulation feels really good but I don't like the amount of pad travel I.E the lever nearly touches the bars. I have no experience of disc brakes so wouldn't know if I have it set up correctly or not. Is there any way to adjust the distance the pads travel (as per the maguras tpa) or is it something I have to get used to? Any advice would be great thanks. Broomer
apparently leaving an elastic band pulling the lever towards the bar over night works, but i usually close the pistons together as for as possible leaving just enough room for the rotor and push it in.for some reasons the hope mono trials take a very long time to self adjust. Sutty22
I'll try the elastic band trick tonight. I'll check the set up again and take it out for a good ride tomorrow. A lot of people rave about the mono trials when they're set up correctly. Any one got any tips for me setting it up? Cheers, Sutty.
Broomer
are your fork mounts faced?
Sutty22
no, it's something I'll look at, at some point. I was hoping to be able to set it up reasonably well without facing them and then as my riding improved get them faced and see the difference. Broomer
i should get mine faced really, but the nearest bike shop that does it is about 30 mins away, myself and alot of other people have got them set up nicely without facing though,

Broomer
just faffed around with various shims, its fairly easy.
Sutty22
That's pretty much what I've done so I'll get out riding on it tomorrow down the beach to bed it in and see how it is then. If it's no better after that I'll start re adjusting the shims. Cheers, Sutty
Sutty22
Went out riding tonight and they felt loads better so hopefully they should have bedded in by the end of the week. Only problem now is they are squealing quite loud but i'm hoping that will go as they bed in and leave me with that lush low grunt sound. Dan6061
Best thing to do, if the elastic band trick doesn't work, is actually ring Hope. They really know their stuff there. When my mate from work rang up about bedding in his Mini, all he had to do was take the rotor out, pull the brake, and then put the rotor back, and 'pump' the brake. Then it was sorted. basher
Use the little grub screw on the inside of the leaver. Also to stop the squealing take your pads out and dab some grease on the back of them.

I'll give that a try tomorrow see if theres any change. Like you said, ringing them is a good ideaUse the little grub screw on the inside of the leaver.I thought that was only for lever travel but I have actually read somewhere else that it improves the brake so will try that as well. Thanks for the tips guys, I'll let you know how I get on.
RobinJI
Yeah, I hate my mono trials unless there's only about 1 or 2 threads showing outside the brass cylinder. Its not the lever travel its the reach adjustment. So as you adjust it to start earlier, it will also end earlier.
Greetings
Try pumping the lever very quickly for a minute. It worked on my brake when the pistons had too much lubrication.
Sutty22
Well I tried winding in the grub screw and it worked great. The brake feels awesome now and it still needs some bedding in yet I think. Cheers for all the advice guys.
