Up'n'away
OK guys , i know i made a topic like this a few days ago but i think i might have stuffed it totaly. . . Basicly after i pressed the leaver without the disk in and the pistons poped out , but since then i have rebled the system.. But now the pistons stick out about 0.2 mm, but only one piston will move and the other will stay put... When you bleed the system do you need to push the pistons right back? Becuase thats not what i did and i dont know if thats what is causing the problem...Any suggestions, really want to ride!Brad
fruitbat
Its been a while since i bled a hope brake but from what i can remember you do need to push both pistons back fully. If one of the pistons is a little lazy it might not be in straight or might just need some persuading to move, and will free itself up over timeFrooty
Up'n'away
Ok, cheers for the quick reply. Thinking about it now i should think it is becuase the piston is slightly out of line as i did go quite rough on it to put it back in.. Broomer
im not sure it matters to be honest, ive bled my brakes while the are on the bike and leave the pistons where they are normally. i also also bled brakes off the bike with the pistons pushed right back, you may need to top up the resivour once you it has self adjusted to the rotor.been quite a while since a bled my hopes and im very forgetful. Up'n'away
Yeah, gona try another bleed tomoro.. If no good then i will take it apart and check the seals , i got a feeling its twisted, the piston is moving now but not straight and not square.. Broomer
if the seel was in incorrectly, i would imagine it would leak oil, push the pistons back into the calipre as far as they go so they sit back straight.
Waynio
the other way to get the piston working is:if the system is bled correctly, hold down the piston that "moves" out a bit IN (push it fully back in with the screw driver and HOLD it down as firmly as possible) with a screw driver, (you may need another person) get them to pump the lever on so the other piston moves. just sounds like a "seized" or a "lazy" piston to me, but you do need to get it moving for it to work correctly. (IF the one your retaining with a screwdriver moves, then it is seized, BUT hopefully the lazy piston should start working.) Lube the piston a bit, push it back in and pump brake on, push them back again, do that till your happy with the movement NOTE: Remove pads when you do this its much easier.Waynio.........................
