Matt_Zoot
I'm tired of blood leaking from my shins. Think its time to get some shinguards but am not sure what to get? Do any of you guys use them? Will footy ones work? How much should I spend? (Y)
basher
Footy ones will work but you may look bit gay with them on in summer as the sun is coming out and shorts are going on. Just put up with the pain i say and learn not to hit your shins lol
Janson
just use whatever. i got myself some fox ones for when i were beginning.. soon you'll learn to not hit your shins, ive only hit mine a handful of times in a few years, which isn't a big enough reason for me to use them. they're warm and look silly. Broomer
i dont wear them, but im just going to wear football shin pads while i perfect crank flips.
Synergy
i got 661 ones from halfords, there ace they dnt affect your movement in anyway
Tomm
661 do some pretty decent ones, without knee guards cos you don't want them. HERE. I also found these Planet-X ones which are a bit cheaper.Football ones work fine, but they look pretty gay on a bike. OK if under trousers though (That's the official style-guru word on the matter ).EDIT: In the time to write that, 4 people have already replied! Tommy d
I wear some 661 shin and knee ones, they are quite warm for the summer admittedly, especially under jeans... but they have saved me a LOT of times since I got them, knee as well as shin.I had to get them really after I did 2 quite bad shin slits one summer that each prevented me from riding for a few weeks. Nice big scars now.
Matt24.
Other option is get some decent grippy pedals and good shoes, I use to try using pads but i ended up smacking my knee as the pedal slid up them, the best fix is a decent set of soles. Plus chicks dig scars (so i've been told, mine just thinks there messy).Matt
Thurston
be a man, some pedel slaps can be awful, scars are here to prove but how often do you actually get a pedel slapNo point in gettin any gaurds in my opinion
Krisboats
I got some monster peddles gashes a few weeks back, and have been wearing my shin pads until they healed (obviously don't want to twat them again in the same place ) I've gotten used to wearing them now, dont find them restrictive at all. I also prefer the fact i only get a dead leg if i do hit them again, rather than getting another slit in my shin and being forced to wear them for longer.661 veggie wraps ***
Egg Fried Rice
I want some 661 veggie shin pads, my shins are smashed lolbut they get hot in the summer though JK
Tomm
but they get hot in the summer though Keep you warm in winter though! My mate wears them on XC rides just for the warmth
sUm
Call me a sissy if you want, but I still remember how I felt when my foot came off on a drop and I landed with 10 stitches-worth of cut on my shin. I looked at the cuts and immediately decided shin pads were the way to go. Almost a year later now and I couldn't be happier I made the decision. Even if you feel like a big man and can put up with some cuts, it can't be a good thing that you're slamming pins through your shin bone. Alexxx
Just be a man...Guarantied practically every trials rider has scars on their shins, Its just something you get while beginning then it stops happeningAlexxx

ManxTrialSpaz
Be a man or get different pedals Not had one shin dig that left a scar, just bruises and even then only once or twice. Some nice big, heavy pedals should do the trick--I've got some Onza Shin Digs. Even now they're quite grippy, as grippy as you need for the street, maybe not good enough for natural. but, as I've said, the biggest injury I've got from them is a scratch down the back of my ankle. Leezaah
I'd say shinguards for the win!dunno what I would do without my shinguards.. probably I would be in a lot of unnecessary pain...I've got some really neat FOX shinguards, really cool. So, in my case I both protect my shins and look cool and it isn't about manhood to wear shinguards, it's about common sense.Mine cost about ÂŁ300 by the way

JonCongreve
I was in a position when i thought shinpads were a bit stupid, but after shinning it quite bad once i decided to get a pair. Brought some 661 Veggies, and they really do not affect movement at all, i find they help my confidence when wearing them now
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
for some people thats like saying don't wear a helmet, learn not to fall off.haha, but, if you hit your head, your dead. basically. But if you hit your shin, oh dear, a little bit of pain, dont be a pussy, get back on your bike, and ride... i did, with half the skin off my left shin hanging off, sock was all red round the rim of it off the blood, but kept riding lol... maaaaan that was a loooong time ago Its only pain, and a time bit off blood... but if you dont wear guards... after a while, you will get used to trying to keep on pedals, so you dont hit shin, that you wont slip any more... if your wearing guards, you say to yourself, ahh it doesnt matter if you slip, so you will slip... easy as...
