Treating Wood - Quick Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

I'm doing some woodwork for GCSE: a childrens trike.

-I sanded all the wood down

-Applied one layer of sandant sealer

- Smoothed down with wet and dry paper

- Applied a second layer of sandant sealer

I am now gonig to smooth that down with wet and dry paper however after, once ive applied the yacht varnish do I then again sand that down with wet & dry paper to fully finish the product?

Cheers. Phil

When I've done it on our boat, I tend to sand it right down to the wood, getting the nice natural colours showing, then we usualy put at least 6 coats of varnish on it, lightly sanding between each one. Our barnishing last's for years because of this and we only need to rub it down and put 2 or 3 coats on each year once you do it right first time.

Ok cheers for the information. What I mainly need to know is does the process finish with a varnishing or finish with a light rubbing down?

finish by varnishing.

Sand it down just a little between coat's so the new stuff has something to stick to and then make sure the last coat you do is well done because it the one which counts. make sure to let it fully dry out aswell.
