Barbra
Well i'm finally getting around to buying a helmet, i slap myself on the wrist for not buying on in the first place. Anyway, i'm going to be buying a Giro, as i know these are proven good helmets judging by the amount of riders that use them. I don't want to spend shed loads on one, but obviously i'll be spending enough to be getting a decent one. I also realise there are numerous topics about helmets, but non which answer my question specifically. Are there any giro (XC type) helmets i need to avoid?P.S I've been looking at this Giro Havoc 2006 Is this a decent helmet? or should i spend my money buying something else? I have around £90 but i need to keep £30 for extra ammo at paint balling and i need to keep £10 for Birmingham. So i have about £50 to spend. Thanks in advance
deanie-b
to be honest, anything that is giro, you cant go wrong on .www.chainreactioncycles.co.uk are ace for helmets, lots of Giro products Edited April 2, 2007 by deanie-b
Bionic Balls
i don't think it matters at all which helmet you get! Just choose one that you like the look of and is the right price. Don't be a tool- see if it fits too..
modman
i use a giro havoc and they're absolutely fine, can't go wrong with one of those!!
poopipe
XC helmets are bent, just get a pisspot and use the £60 you save to buy beer or help a starving african.oh and try the bloody thing on before buying it - if it doesn't fit it won't protect your head. F-Stop Junkie
The main priority with a helmet is fit. Nothing else matters as much! Even if you're going to buy online or whatever, go to a shop and try some on! Don't just stick with one brand either, try Bell, Giro, Specialized, LAS, and so on, and find the one that's the most comfortable. The better it fits, the more likely you are to wear it, and the more protection it'll offer if you crash. Don't just buy the TF Favourite if it doesn't fit you! br3n
I got the giro ze or xen - cant remember what its called.helmets above £50 are all fairly decent these days, Try and find one which you can tighten the actual inside of the hemet up with (zen/xen has this) and its a lot better than having just a chin strap. Captain Scarlet
Any helmet over the £30 mark will do you fine, just try to look for one that offers protection to the side of your head, rather than just sitting on top of your head.I've got a Uvex Magnum, its a good helmet with a lot of coverage and only cost me £40.Best helmet for looks and coverage would have to be a Giro Xen though, have a look around for the older ones as they are cheaper and better for your budget. ScotchDave
The only thing you need to do is make sure you try on the helmets, as has already been said, also remember that all the companies conform to the same basic standards in other words, the amount of protection gives is dictated by how well it fits and how much it covers. Greetings
Try it before you buy it. I measured my head, ordered an M and it was way too small. Luckily they replaced it for me.You might want to check out Met Veleno helmets, they're great. A bit like the old E2

F-Stop Junkie
Well i measured my head at 56cm, so i guess when i buy i'll be buying a medium Are the measurements on the website accurate? (My measurement was)You have completely missed the point here. All heads are different shapes. Helmets are different shapes too. Some helmets are quite circular in shape, while others are more oval. Also all heads have odd lumps and bumps on them, which some helmets will accomodate, and others won't.You can not just measure your head and buy a pretty helmet. You must go to a bike shop or halfords and try on different helmets, and different brands to see what suits. As a rule, all the helmets one brand makes are of a similar size and shape, but don't count on it. If you want a Giro Xen in a medium, do try one on if you can. It's no time to get precious about saving a few quid if you want a current model lid, it's worth paying a few pounds more to buy it from a shop where you can try it on.It's a different matter if you're saving a lot though! RobinJI
If you like the look of the Xens then just pay the extra 10er and get the 2004 one off CRC. They are really good helmets, but as said so many times before, check it fits, just try on a mates or something, or go around the local shops and try some on.
