Hay guys.

Well our new bike shop in stourbridge race co cycles have been open a bit and the Dudley council have asked them to put on a show like demo get some riders down etc to show people about bikes etc. Also they are celebrating if you want to call it the fact they are making it better for bikers to lock there bikes up placing big bike hut things around the town.

And the bike shop have asked me to do the demo for them and hopefully my 2 mates tom and Ollie off the forum if I can get them in which I think I can.

Its not until June 23rd ( gf and sisters bday:() but im really excited. Only thing is im not sure what to do in a demo they have asked me to try and get some idea of how I want the section etc and all I come out with was pallets. I have never done a demo before so I don’t know what to do.

Do I just ride as if I was just out on a ride?

How high should I do stuff, should I have it so I am riding properly or so I make it all rather easy so I don’t look silly if I bail if you get me.

Any ideas on courses? It’s not going to be massive but should be fun.

Thanks guys

Also if you want you could plan some courses because I don’t have a clue really.

Thanks Beau

I think it is best if you build stuff that is easy to do but looks good. (if you get what I mean)

Like the crowd (most of them) won't be more amazed if you do a 9ft gap. Then if you do a 5 ft gap.

Would be good if you could get up high because it looks better if your high up.

Do I just ride as if I was just out on a ride?

Thanks Beau

in a simple word, no.

basically yea, do the stuff you would if you where out on a ride, but dont make tapping or whatever the focus of your demo. easy(ish) stuff like 270 and 360 drops offs off say a 5 foot high obstacle, are way more impressive to your average joe, than watching you do 10 taps at various heights.

one important thing i always think, is make it all rideable, dont say do a couple of ups, a gap, then have to get off your bike, and climb down, it just looks poor, if you can stay on the bike the whole time, the whole demo looks a lot more proffessional, and you look like a much better rider.

dont put any emphasis on pushing your limits, or doing stuff switch foot, your meant to be making it look easy and impressive etc.

Our demo in October was the worst organised thing in the world.

Literally on the morning of the comp we stuffed a massive LDV van with pallets and set off. (at least we could ride the van too).

Turned out really well in the end.

All we did was set up a basic course that we could easily and quickly shift about and then had a mini comp amoungst ourselves.

Once the commentator got involved we started the old gaps etc, gradually getting bigger to get the crowd hyped.

If you do more than 1 show a day try to mix it up abit between them so it's not all the same.

Skips, pallets, thin beams, rails, concrete blocks.

ride al the demo doing varied stuff and stuff that is easy to you. then at the end do somehting massive like a gap drop and make the gap further like 3 times or summut...Get them clapping etc... ;)

Love you. Good luck.

Make pillars out of scafolding poles and try and land on the ends of them while being about 6 foot in the air.

The crowd will be amazed, either by your ability to actually land on such a thin object so high up, or by the way you impale yourself on it ;)

Just fun stuff, couple of boxes, some pallets, some thin beams, tractor tyres?.... Just stuff that can be picked up cheaply. Nails and a hammer will work a treat too for fixing things like the tyres down.

As for riding, don't all go cruising round at once, think strategically, two of you rest while the other rides, of have a mini ride off between two of you while one rests. Do funny things like copy a line and add to it (one person goes first, the other does the same line and then does something better, the other tries to beat it again... will get the crowd interested). Have a sidehop bar with different heights on, and make it higher for each sidehop, crowds usually like that.

As for actual riding, like others have said, vary it. Don't just keep bombing round the place tapping one object ten sidehopping another and gapping another. Its boring enough to watch for people who are interested but seeing you do the same thing on different sreas of the place will allow people to think its all too repetitive. Add some fun things in like 180's, front hops, crankflips, x-ups, 1 handers. Do soem technical things, like sidehop gap between two thin beams or even 180 sidehop gap them.

I think that enough for now, i'm tired and so i'm going to bed.
