Side-hop Problems

Hello Everyone!

I'm a newbie on this Trial-Forum, my name is Ruben and I ride Trials since a year.

My bike is a Monty 221 PR 2005 (20")

I've got a question about the side-hop.

- My good-foot is left , but I write whit my right hand (so I'm right-handed) . Is that normal?

I've just learned the side-hop , and I it feels good when I try it with a left foot to the left.

Many people say : when your good foot is left you had to side-hop to the right!

Is that true? I've tried it but it was twice as hard to do!

And I do the side-hop in 2 parts ; first I put my bike on the rear-wheel and the I jump side-ways.

But in the movie of ryan leech , he jumpes in one time. I've also tried it but I jumped less high.

Grtz.

Rubenio

ps. sorry for my bad english , I try to be as clear as possible!

hey man. i used to have this problem. i used to be most comfortable sidehopping to the right and my right foot is forwards. i now sidehop to the left. just practise. I switched by practising going onto the rear wheel and then just hopping straight up. later tried to do the same but slightly to the left. then start going up curbs.

it doesnt really matter which way you go its just that your pedal can get in the way when doing bigger heights if you jump towards your front foot.

hope iv helped.

Hello! don't worry your English is superb compared to some of the other members.

As for the sidehops i am the same as you. Right handed and left footed.

I used to many years ago sidehop to the left off both wheels. I then got back into trials and now forced myself to learn sidehops to the right off the back wheel. This allows me to aim for back wheel landing but i have my back foot as a safety measure. So if i miss i land on my back foot to save myself. With this technique i haven't hit my mech hanger/ tensioner yet. I go at a slight angle to the wall so my front wheel is closer. I also aim to land either both or back wheel first.

Works for me.

Hi you

I am left footed and right handed so your not the only one. With side hops I used to go to the left but then I thought well I should go the other way so I practised and practised going to the right and now a year later I can do about 39" to the right. Just practise going to the right and you'll get there. If you want any more help just ask.

I'm right handed, with my left foot forward.

I am stronger side-hopping to the right as far as height, but more comfortable sidehopping to my left. But then again, I can't get much above handle bar height :)

I don't find it much harder going from two wheels than from back wheel on a low BB bike. But with a BB-rise, it's easier on the back wheel.

I have recently learnt how to sidehop and am developing the skill further.

I am left foot forward, so I decided to learn to hop the right. I found that I could do it better to the left though.

I learnt and have done my biggest hop to the right.

Now I can do it either way, it just depends how comfortable I am at the time of doing it, or the space/height I have to take up.

It doesn't matter if you do it the wrong way, apart from the fact if you hop in the direction of your forward foot, the crank can sometimes hit.

Hey, ive just learnt how to side hop and my mate said not to put your front end over the wall as you can't put it down to get more hight.

He also said get a good distance from the wall so you don't hit the cranks.

Hope this helped in any way Aaron!

Thanks for the reactions again!!

I tried to side-hop to the right but when I tried it , it looks and feels more as a bikehop to the right :S

But I stay practising so it's going to be ok.

I have another small question wich is quite important (sorry it's a little bit off-topic, but it's not worth a new topic)

- If there's a reaction on my topic or a topic wich I post something in, I get no email from an automatic moderator what says : There is a new reaction!

I looked at the settings but , nothing changed. Maybe because of my misunderstanding of some english things, I already contact the moderators but no since a few weeks I don't get a reaction. Does somebody knows the solution for this?

Greetz.

Yep ;) Same right handed/footed but trials with my left and find sidehoping to the left best and to the right, worse and least comfortable.. All you can really do is practise, at first i thought "oh my god, i am not going to be doing this any higher than 2 crates".. Practise Pratcise ;P

:o already a member ;) Nice :P
