Gandalf the Yellow
i've been using maxxis minions for my rear wheel for a long time now, there's nothing wrong but i fancy shredding some weight off the bike and after some research the big betty is a lot lighter and grip wise shouldn't be too far back from the minions..the only problem is they only come in 2.4's, it is an expensive tire and i don't know if it'll fit the tryall rim's width.. has anyone here tried them on a wide rim?any helps appreciated.steve
j-bonham@hotmail.com
they do fit tryall rims. i'm currently using the tyre. id say it a good tyre, really good for naturalgripping on rocks and such. seems to last ages as well. i've had it 4 months!hope that helps a bit. john. Greetings
Sorry for the bump. Are these tyres snakebite resistant?
N.Wood
Sorry for the bump. Are these tyres snakebite resistant?Ish...They're not as thick as Maxxis/Michelins which is why their weight is lower.I ride with a bloke who uses one, and he runs a thick green Huchinson tube and has pinched a couple of times running pretty high pressures. They should be fine as long as you take care with them and add a few more psi

N.Wood
Psi doesn't weigh anything But yeah, you get lighter weight but the possibility of more pinches...Depends what you want from a tyre, there isn't a 'perfect' tyre that weights nowt, grips everything and doesn't puncture...Swings and roundabouts

Bigman
I have been looking into trying a Big Betty for a while now, they have a good soft rubber compound, and look like they hold a large volume of air which would make them nice and bouncy, only thing i am not sure about is whether they are ok for pinch flats? as for my size i do run reasonably low pressures. Also i think the only places i have seen the for sale in the uk they are around £35 - 40 ish, so quite expensive.Adam

Gandalf the Yellow
That's the perfect tyre, in every way. The only problem being that you can't get them anymore.Any other reviews of the Big Betty?well i got mine a few weeks back and i tried running my usual 16 psi in in the rear with a spesh downhill tube (im very light and im used to low pressure in the minions) , pinched on the first ride!....so in terms of low pressure its no good really, i now run a little more, up to 25psi now!! its been fine, its got plenty of grip, weighs 900g's (400gish lighter than the minions) and its got a larger tire volume than the 2.5 maxxis, being a 2.4 itself. its also a bit wider than the maxxis cos it rubs on my frame a little when my wheel is out of true.so in my opinion an excellent light grippy tire if you can afford it, and if you're silky smooth or you like slightly higher pressure then i'd rate them over maxxis...hope i've helped.steve
