yes, we've allready covered that or did you just come blundering into the thread without even reading the other posts?

judging by his response, i'm guessing he has read the thread, and i don't think it was an unreasonable comment to start the post with. no need to have a stab

I dont know how people can say middleburns arnt used by trials riders. Just because its not anodized a stupid colour and made by deng doesnt mean you cant use it on a trials bike. Just because some kids on here have been riding for a year and can only remember drilled out anodized mass produced crap doesnt mean a few years ago trials wasnt as big as it is now and there wernt big specialist companies churning out cranks that all look the same. Middleburn are just the same as raceface, they arnt trials specific i remember oli beckensale winning countless xc races on his middleburns. Once upon a time trials riders looked for good all round parts and a shed load of them used raceface (ashton hawes tongue akrigg kurt brain) and any other old school rider you can think of. My turbine lp's have lasted ages and would choose them over any trials specific crank. And thats my 2 cents

How many riders ride 18T front sprockets as opposed to 22/16T?

Had middleburns, they were extremely heavy and only took a 22T chainring. Can't see a company justifying a 250g bashing when I've had a Tensile one that weighs probably no more than 60g for well over a year and it's still perfect. Who needs the extra durability? Not practical at all.

Now that HS has introduced a 18T bash and chainring for MB cranks, they might become more popular.

Super Pro Trials 16t bash/sprocket has been out for a while now?

What.... ?

Yeah, middleburn have had a titanium/steel 16tooth sprocket/bashring combination for their cranks for as long as i can remember. Which also makes them much lighter than any of the deng/tensile crap.

175mm Middleburn cranks with 22tooth "chunky unneeded" bash/chainring - 622g

170mm Echo crank arms - 528g..... Echo bash - 68g............ Echo Screw on cog - 67g = 663g...... Heavier than the burns with the chunky, over the top bash.

175mm Middleburn super pro trials cranks (with tiny 16tooth bash/ring) - 579g

461 g crankarms only; +49 g for 85 mm bashring; +3 g for steel washer; screw on bash + 67g = 580g

Sorry, but i think burns are a lot lighter than you though ;)
