Cable Brakes...

I was wondering last night, how good would a trials bike with cable brakes be? (Front BB7 and rear Avid Ultimate).

So who runs cable brakes, whats your setup and how good is it? ^_^

Cheers, Joe (Y)

i run that exact setup :), well, ultimate arms, rear ultimate lever, linear slick cable, coust pads, bb7 185, front xt lever (xtr blade), teflon lined cable

i love it. its virtually maintenance free, haven't had to touch my pads in months, and a quick turn on the barrel adjuster every few weeks compensates for pad wear.

i haven't had anybody unimpressed with my brakes, well at least they haven't said anything, most people are jealous at how smooth and light my rear brake is (even though i still run quite alot of tension) and everybody knows bb7s are nuts!

i've had maguras, mono trials, starbike hydro v, hayes, etc, and none of them touch this setup imo

however for a rear v, a deore/sd7 is perfectly adequate, they just aren't as smooth and quiet as ultimate arms (ultimates are slightly stiffer too)

lever wise, alot of people rate the new sd7 and the deore levers, personally i'm not a fan, but thats cos i'm so used to the ultimate/xtr levers now, but then its really down to personal preference on levers.

if you need any help, gimme a shout (Y)

i run avids front and rear with xtr levers(vees), works a dream for me

Pretty much the same setup. 160mm front and 203 rear. I would recommend to use use

Kool stop pads for the Avids as they lock up is better and last way longer. I usually put

triflow into the cable housing for smoother pull action. There is no bullshit maintenance

like bleeding or worrying about busting a line.
