Kenan
Hello all, after a few pointers in the right direction. I'v decided to give trials riding a go, seen all the videos on the net and looks like fun. I ride trails etc on my GT i-drive but don't know where to start with a trials bike. I was planning to get on of ebay.I was thinking of getting somthing like a Onza T-pro as they seem to be going for about 140-200 second hand which is affordable. Would somthing like this be any good for a real beginner or should I be looking for somthing else? Are the hydrolic brakes (non disk) the way to go and is it better to get a bike without the seat (can see anyone ever using one)I know this may sould like a stupid question (most of mine are) but are trial bikes ok for using in bmx/skate parks?Oh yeah I'm also 29 this year, am I to old? rudirudirudirudirudi
too old? peh. yea t pros are good starter bikes, i got my bike off ebay. £250 with hydrolics and quite good parts. It was worth a lot more and only needed a few small parts like bolts etc. ebay can be good but make sure your certain of its condition. a lot of people start with t pros. hydrolic brakes are good but not essential. some riders prefere using v brakes as they can be very powerful when set up correctly. keep looking on ebay. you can get some really good deals from it. Rudiedit:as for the skateparks, you can use them there but not for bmx style riding. they just wont hold. Sucram
I started on a t-pro and i couldn't think of a more reasonable bike to start on. You can pick them up at a decent price, with Magura's.As for the age, don't worry about it, your starting a wicked sport
Lee Cable
29? Thats nothing, we have a 42 year old on here somewhere. Keep posting like that, and your on the way to validation. In response to your question, may I ask how tall you are?
Kenan
I'd say I was 5'10 - 5'11, I suppose this could affect bike choice?I'v been watching a few on ebay, they seem to be going for similar prices. My friend is also watching the same ones so will have to make sure when I do bid it's not against him lolMy other half is making me sell my second car to fund a wedding etc so I will need a new toy to stop me crying
WeeGee
I'm new to this also, but I know a bit about brakes! I think most guys tend to use a Magura HS33 (Hydraulic rim brake) on the rear with a rim grind and ceramic brake pads and a quality front Vee brake (XTR) alternatively a front disc, an Avid cable operated is pretty popular! You have to think about the weight issue especially with the front wheel. If you have the money then Hope do a Mono trials hydraulic disc brake setup (Need to be set-up well though). Hope that's a help... Edited March 25, 2007 by WeeGee
