Ali C
good setup at decent price:avid sd7 arms and lever, linear slick cable, plaz crvs or some heatsink backings with your choice of pads in (better than using the onza pad adaptors)You will also need an brake adaptor, heatsink gets my vote. Fishy
The onza V- adapter seems to be pretty ace.

Ali C
will work fine on a narrow rim, but they are fairly wide and reduce the width of rim you can use. Plus they then allow the pad to wobble like a maggie brake reducing pad life, bite and hold, getting an alloy backing and putting what pad material you want is much better.anyway, brake wise you cant go wrong with avids, they have arms and levers for every price range. PaRtZ
sorry to sound like a nonce, but does the brake cable REALLY make that much of a difference? also what is the difference between a linear slick cable and a clarks cable from my lbs?
Ali C
cable is fairly important, but its the last on the list of importance...yeh.You want a cable to be stiff in compression, linear slick cables are like gear cables with strands running the whole length, normal cables have a spiral going around the whole way which compressed like a big spring and makes the brake mushy.
Ash-Kennard
the oddesy slics are pre streached, reducing mush, they are also wound differently and pre lubed

guineasmithpig
hey, i'm just looking at putting a v-brake on the front of my old skool rig. have got the newer style XT arms, and hope to use an avid or xt lever, with the aforementioned cables. question is, which pads to go for on a plain F519 silver rim? i know loads of bmx'ers who use spanish fly's to good affect, but had also sen the rock pads look similar for less dosh. or is it really gonna be worth goin the whole hog for crv's?Smithy
Ali C
spanish flys are grabby as fook on a smooth rim, but pretty mushy too.get some alloy backings and get some rock pad greens and put the material in, that would be super powerful

matt rushton
Ok i've decided to try a V- brake how does this setup sound. SD7 lever, xtr calipers. Odyssey linear slick cable, plaz crvs.Matt Rushton
Brian Bleech
Ok i've decided to try a V- brake how does this setup sound. SD7 lever, xtr calipers. Odyssey linear slick cable, plaz crvs.Matt Rushtonswap the xtr calipers for an sd7, deore or ultimate and it would be pretty sweet any caliper with parrallel push will go horrid, loose and wobbley after a while.i personally would go for hestsink backing with a pad of your choice too, but if you like those pads go for it. RobinJI
Are there any Vees other than the Ultimate that would have the option of the noodle on the unconventional side?
Brian Bleech
Are there any Vees other than the Ultimate that would have the option of the noodle on the unconventional side?cane creek dc5 kinda (no noodle though) - i think wiggle do them. << but I don't think. ultimates are that much more expensive paul love vee too i think, but they are more expensive than ultimates
guineasmithpig
Are there any Vees other than the Ultimate that would have the option of the noodle on the unconventional side?also the odyssey A-Brake have option to run whatever side you want. they worked a beast on my mates dirt bike. they have zero flex, but may be a bit chunky for trials. anyone ever use them?smithy
matt rushton
swap the xtr calipers for an sd7, deore or ultimate and it would be pretty sweet any caliper with parrallel push will go horrid, loose and wobbley after a while.i personally would go for hestsink backing with a pad of your choice too, but if you like those pads go for it.Ok i've PMed Steve. And it looks like i'll be getting some backings from him then put my joy pad material in. Also wouldn't parrallel push work better? I'll try my xtr calipers for abit then if i don't like them i'll change them for some sd7s.Matt Rushton
