Star Nuts And Top Caps

Word up,

I want to make my bike bar spinable and tail whipable. For my back brake I'm going to legnthen the cable but obviously for the front brake, I need to do something else. I've been told of starnuts and top caps that use wider threads for hollow bolts that you can thread a cable through. Is this true? If it is, where can I find them?

If this is not true has anyone got any suggestions of what I can do?

Thanks

Ben.

You want a Hollow Star nut to run the front brake down through the steerer tube.

Look on Bmx websites because they use them alot.

This headset has a hollow starnut and the hollow nut at the top. Everything you need.

You are indeed correct but there is no need to get the whole headset, you can get just the star nut, bolt and top cap. I got mine from Halfords where I work for the pricely sum of £2.99, i'm pretty sure we're still selling them too though they're not on our display so you may have to ask someone if there's one lying about. Failing that your local bike shop or any decent BMX shop should be able to sort you out.

My bike is bar-spinnable just with a fairly long front brake cable, but it's a disc which probably helps.

If you want to bodge it, you can put the stem on as normal, then take the top cap off and thread the cable through the star nut. Downside is you have to take the brake off every time you need to tighten the headset, and there's no top cap. All in all, it's probably worth paying the £8 for the proper kit :P
