carboy280
I know this is a noob question but im just wondering weather there is any difference in strength or ridgidity in the 36h over the 32h rims also how it affects hubs and what not (not like 32h rim needs 32h hub , thats just blindingly obvious, although you can use a 32h rim with a 36h hub i think))
adam trials
Yes you are correct in thinking you can use a 32hole rim on a 36hole hub but i have heared they ate a pain in the arse to build. I have found that if you are buying for the rear go for a 36hole as they have more spokes (obviously) and i find it makes them stronger as there is more holding the rim in the correct position.Adam. Luano
4 spokes doesnt make alot of difference to be honest in neither weight nor strength but due to wheel ineria (i think weight incerases as the wheel spins) so your probable better of with a 32h.the only time 4 more spokes would help is if your really rogue with your landings
spmcfadden
If you look at the rotating weight of four extra spokes it won't make a noticeable difference if you compare it to the inertia from the weight of the tyre!!Four extra spokes may give extra strength but it will mean two extra holes per hub flange. More holes per flange means that the holes will be closer together and thus less material between them. The same force will be spread over less material and so there will be higher stresses, meaning the hub flange will be more likely to crack. This is why the Hope Bigun hub has such big flanges. The eyelets on the rim are far apart so it won't affect the rim. The force transfers via the spokes so having more spokes can't be a bad thing, going from 32 spokes to 36 is 12.5% more.

If you had a 32 hole hub, it'd be easy.
