Hendrix
After a police encounter on Sunday, quite a few people got fined. I bumped into a copper today, whom I knew, and asked him about it. Here's the deal :If you ride a 20", you can ride on the pavements. It's classed a a kids bike, and they're allowed to be ridden on the pavement! If you're under 16, they can't touch you. =)I think I've said this right, it's what he told me.Cheers,Hendrix Edited March 12, 2007 by Hendrixmaster
Dan6061
Yep, that be right.Although, I'm pretty sure bikes being used on roads need seats, and reflectors? If this is true, then pretty much everyone can ride on the pavement.

ogre
what about city central areas/pedestrian zones?
TomR
They can't do you. Riding on the pavement falls under section 72 of the highways act 1835, so as far i can see you must be on a pavement adopted under the highways act. Be aware of public rights of way though, they count as highway.
Egg Fried Rice
I asked my girlfriends dad and he said, no one is allowed to ride on the pavement, no matter what bike or what age. the law stands for everyone he said. so this thread is out the window lolJK

RobinJI
To be fair the only time I've ever even had riding on the pavement mentioned to me is when they have stopped me for another reason like having no lights and thought they'd mention it aswell. They dont really care if your not causing any harm. Be cool if it is legal though. My frames a 9" center to top, but I'm 17 so I don't think it'd count anyway. mettam1988
Its never worth arguing with police they WILL win. after all they have been trained and taught about all those kind of laws, purely so that they can fine people and not get sued later on.If you cant leg it away then just be very meek and apologetic and say u didnt realise. usually they let u off.at the end of the day we all know we are being illegal so its a fair cop really.i agree that getting a fine sucks gooch though.
